Summary: I owned a pair of 901's for 8 years. This is a fantastic speaker for 2 channel applications only. i.e. Music. If you have a 5 channel surround sound system look to other speakers. I ran the 901's through an Adcom GFA555 amp and the sound was strong and crisp. I would recommend you get a good amp (meaning something in the 200watt range) for these speakers. I also ran Bose AM5's to help augment the highs and the lows.
Summary: I was brought up with the original 901's in the late sixties. When my father bought a pair and than later the 901 series II.It was powered by the Mcintosh MC2105 with Pre C28. I loved the 901's ever since with it's wide dimension in sound and spectrum as if I was in a concert hall. I have recently purchase the 901 series VI with ever better dimension in sound.I would recommend that a good quility power amplifier be used and you can't go wrong.
Summary: If you don't care about high fidelity sound, the full spectrum, but only the midrange, buy these speakers. Otherwise you should keep looking. There are better choices out there than these even if you think they are cheap. You will need the equalizer, which most sellers do not sell with the speakers. Think about it.
Summary: As a professional musician I have known about BOSE for most of my 28 year career and wondered what all the controversy was about the 901's so I decided a year ago to give them a try and see for myself. I also own other mid to high end audio components. Through extensive listening sessions I have experienced both good and bad aspects of these speakers.
Summary: I got these to add to a pair I had in one stereo system. If you are willing to experiment w/ speaker placement the results can be sweet and I find them to be a great value (on ebay). If you don't feel like dropping $10K on speakers close your eyes and try a few of these.

Summary: These speakers have been around for years and not much has changed in its conceptual design. My first set of Bose were the 601 series one. I still have them and they still sound great after 30 years although I did replace the bass drivers (due to foam rot). The 601s work on the same theory as the 901s - direct reflected sound. The speakers handle as little as 30 watts and I have driven them hard with 120watts per channel. Easy placement and they still pound.
Summary: I bought a pair of these in the early '70's, while I was at college in Boston. They have been with me through thick and thin. They carried me through the deaths of John Lennon and Stevie Ray Vaughan. When Jerry died, they performed a funeral vigil for days. These days, they get more Mozart than Stones, and with the exception of one trip back to the factory in the early 80's for new driver seals, they have been the best sounding and most durable speakers I've owned or...
