Bose 901 series VI: the latest of this Stereo Speaker
11 July 2010
Summary: The Bose 901 Series VI Direct Reflecting Stereo Loudspeaker System is the latest of this famous system. I bought it for the same reason that I bought my first one forty years ago in 1970 which was the original Bose 901 and which was subsequently labeled the Bose 901 series 1. Additionally , I found a virtually brand new and unused set on ebay for a very attractive reduce price.
Summary: I don't own these speakers as I found them unsatisfactory. The sound they produce is loud broad and very VERY warm. In fact if anyone is curious as to how a speaker can sound warm, these are the epitome. Having said that, the bass is strong but not distinct. It isn't tight, and offers very little punch. Also each speaker consists of 1 rear firing sub and a bundle of full range drivers.
Summary: I was very pleased with the sound quality and appearance of the equipement. The sound quality in this equipement is exceptional when connected correctly to equipment with the proper power output. I was pleasantly surprised with the construction quality of the items and the performance.
Summary: 901s are not for everyone. The older Series V's will often need the surrounds replaced. There are many kits out there and it is fun to do with great results. You need the right space and amount of power. Follow placement instructions. I have a fully restored Poineer SX1980 @ 280 WPC powering two pairs of 901 V's properly placed and anyone who hears this set up for the first time is shocked including 901 doubters. Lots of power is needed for low volume clear response.
Summary: I purchased these Bose 901 speakers knowing that they would deliver quality sound from my home stereo. The price was right, at under $800.00, originally more than $1,300.oo. Worth every penny of their original price!!!! If these are hooked up to the correct components, and properly placed, they will not disappoint!!
Summary: I bought a pair of 901 Series VI back in 1990, from the PX on post in Bamberg, Germany. I didn't really know much about A/V equipment then, but I figured, Hey, they're expensive, they must be good. I was right on both counts. And 19 years later, they still sound as good as they did the day that I bought them. While I certainly haven't listened to every high end speaker out there, I don't think one can do much better.
Summary: Had my 901's for over 15 years. Love them. The neighbors will know when you're have a party. There's no reason for anyone, not have something Bose. The headphones alone will improve what your old stereo puts out. And their 12 month Pay it Off with NO interest, makes it convenient and painless.
Summary: My 901 are perhaps 20 to 25 years old, and continue great with no contender on horizon, for the high price. At some point, perhaps 2 years ago, Bose advertised 901 on the web as front speakers in multisystem home systems, but due to a different sound image and purpose of 901, they received a doze of critique, and were no longer advertised there for this purpose, or for whatever reason ?
Summary: These speakers have been around for years and not much has changed in its conceptual design. My first set of Bose were the 601 series one. I still have them and they still sound great after 30 years although I did replace the bass drivers (due to foam rot). The 601s work on the same theory as the 901s - direct reflected sound. The speakers handle as little as 30 watts and I have driven them hard with 120watts per channel. Easy placement and they still pound.
