Summary: I purchased my Bose 901 Series V Speakers while I was overseas in the military in 1983. I was stationed in the Philippines at that time, I then was stationed in England where I completed the stereo system I still have today. Needless to say these speakers have endured several moves and continue to be the most unbelievable home speaker I have ever heard. First let me say I purchased these speakers because I was told that the speakers had an unlimited max power rating.
Summary: I could say that they are "real loud" but that's only half the story. They have the ability to reproduce music at very high sound levels but sound very real, as well... Although I still have the speakers, I have down graded to partnering them with a mere 100W per channel reciever. Long ago, while living alone, I had procured a QSC professional grade amplifier rated at 325w per channel. My friend, through sheer coincidence, had the exact same model.
Summary: First I never write reviews and one who just read and make design changes and thats that. The 901s are incredible period. I hated these speakers for years since 1978. Than I bought a pair in 2009. They are unbelievable. Any music come out perfect. I own Klipsch ,B&O and ESS just to name a few. The 901's hold their own. The bass is there even with out correct placement with a eq, Highs are rolled off crisp. I was a Bose hater to the max but to own them is to love them.
It was and still ongoing traumatic experience from hell

Bose 901 series VI: the latest of this Stereo Speaker
11 July 2010
Summary: The Bose 901 Series VI Direct Reflecting Stereo Loudspeaker System is the latest of this famous system. I bought it for the same reason that I bought my first one forty years ago in 1970 which was the original Bose 901 and which was subsequently labeled the Bose 901 series 1. Additionally , I found a virtually brand new and unused set on ebay for a very attractive reduce price.
Summary: I don't own these speakers as I found them unsatisfactory. The sound they produce is loud broad and very VERY warm. In fact if anyone is curious as to how a speaker can sound warm, these are the epitome. Having said that, the bass is strong but not distinct. It isn't tight, and offers very little punch. Also each speaker consists of 1 rear firing sub and a bundle of full range drivers.
Summary: I was very pleased with the sound quality and appearance of the equipement. The sound quality in this equipement is exceptional when connected correctly to equipment with the proper power output. I was pleasantly surprised with the construction quality of the items and the performance.
Summary: 901s are not for everyone. The older Series V's will often need the surrounds replaced. There are many kits out there and it is fun to do with great results. You need the right space and amount of power. Follow placement instructions. I have a fully restored Poineer SX1980 @ 280 WPC powering two pairs of 901 V's properly placed and anyone who hears this set up for the first time is shocked including 901 doubters. Lots of power is needed for low volume clear response.
Summary: I purchased these Bose 901 speakers knowing that they would deliver quality sound from my home stereo. The price was right, at under $800.00, originally more than $1,300.oo. Worth every penny of their original price!!!! If these are hooked up to the correct components, and properly placed, they will not disappoint!!
