Stylish and practical

KenD, Crutchfield
5 June 2013
  • Summary: I would give this 4.5 stars if that was an option. These speakers put out nice audio at moderate to louder volumes, they are fair at lower sound levels such as for background unless you are going to put them in a bigger room. I'm using them in my bedroom for my Lynx radio. The bass response at lower volume levels is moderate, likely to be improved with the optional subwoofer.
  • Pros: Very good sound with good bass at medium to loud volumes for this size of speaker. Stylish high quality cabinet and workmanship. With a subwoofer, I'd likely give this product a 5.
  • Cons: No grill to hide the exposed elements. Poor sound at lower levels due to no sub-woofer (which can be added as an optional wireless accessory). A bit large for a desktop (computer speaker).

Outstanding sound and money well spent!

  • Summary: Out of the box, these speakers impress with their weight and quality of construction. Extremely easy to set up and I was listening to music in 10 minutes. I spaced them about 5 feet apart and toed in to the listening position. These speakers offer so many ways to listen to your music. I used line inputs, connected to the out of my Carver pre-amp. The sound is warm well defined and the speakers could resolve even the most complex choral works, that I auditioned.
  • Pros: Great connectivity options, clear defined and musical sounding, great build and quality is noticeable. Great sound stage!!. All music styles tend to sparkle with these speakers
  • Cons: I did not like the volume control, I would have preferred one with limits, not one that keeps turning. No headphone jack on the front of these speakers

PC Use Problem

Ron, Crutchfield
1 April 2013
  • Summary: I connected the A5 with Autoengine D1 DAC to my PC. Works fine when playing only CDs in my PC. However if I use PC programs at the same time it causes an interruption in the music like a skip or noise when I click on the mouse.

Nice looking and good sounding speakers

PB, B&H Photo
26 July 2012
  • Excerpt: I use the speakers with my Mac Pro studio computer, and listen to my music while I'm painting or working in Photoshop. I like the real wood speaker enclosures. The sound is good for a small speaker. My home system speakers are B&W 800D's, with a B&W 15" subwoofer, and McIntosh amps and components. Consequently, I'm very spoiled. Even so, I enjoy the A5+ Audioengine speakers.
  • Pros: Attractive Design, Easy to Mount, Easy To Set Up, Good Power Output, Great Sound Quality

I like these speakers but...

7 May 2012
  • Summary: I don't live in a dorm room anymore so I think grill covers would be a great idea. Although these speakers are capable of nice bottom end, they will not produce it unless you incorporate an EQ. Something as simple as an EQ app on your computer or mobile device will add the puch needed.
  • Pros: Clean uncolored sound
  • Cons: Bass is thinner than source

Beautiful and diverse

20 December 2011
  • Excerpt: Sounds gorgeous and coupled with a Bluetooth module serves all of my needs for an iPod media dock. Was a little disappointed in the bamboo as the face was a much darker shade than the body on one of the speakers but I suppose hats to be suspected with natural materials.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up, Good Power Output, Great Sound Quality

Good Office Spkrs

Duditude, Crutchfield
4 December 2010
  • Summary: Put these in the home office, nice set, no need for an amp, plenty of power for an office.
  • Pros: Small, plenty of power, w/o separate amp, look nice on office bookshelf.
  • Cons: Expensive, esp when paired w/D1 DAC. Probably a less expensive comparable solution out there but I didn't look too hard.
