Wow, for very little money ($500/pair - acousticsounddesign) on ebay, with an MSRP of $499 each, these are amazing, first in the local showroom, they beat the RF-82 in a side by side blind test. The above statement is crazy, I've been in a Klipsch household since 1962.

These speakers have not only a very high efficiency( although in the Klipsch world they would be normal) but also sound great on everything from Gangstagrass to the movie "Chronicles of Riddick" and everything inbetween. Yes, they are a two way horn loaded, smooth and melodic speaker. I was listening to Jana Stanfield this morning @ apx. 48 db and her voice was so sweet and melodic, I never realized there was a duet in part of the chorus, my previous speakers (Klipsch Chorus II's) had never revealed that, the Chorus II's were $1800 when new.

These speakers are a great example of the evolution of horn speakers producing neither the honking or blaring horns can be noted for. They have a strong, tight not thuddy bass line. When I ran the YPAO to balance the volume (Yamaha Parametric Audio Optimizer), it set the HTR to roll to my subwoofer at 80 Hz, the THX standard, but never did they get thumpy as so many "Big Bass" speakers do. The bass line is almost La Scala like in that sense, tight and accurate.

The cabinetry, although good, is not as pretty as the Klipsch cabinetry, nor are these bi-amp capable, the RF-82's are a little prettier in black and they are set up to bi-amp. These are problems I can live with. The PL-89's to my knowledge only come in black. They are still pretty, although my wife insists that our Cornwall II's (CWO) are for the living room, these are for my man cave.

Bottom line, I set out to buy a $1100 pair of speakers and instead, thanks to an honest audio salesman, ended up spending just a bit over $500 (Free shipping, but MA sales tax).
