Excerpt: I got this mic when I build this rig early this year, and it has worked quite well. I didn't really get many complaints from my friends about the quality, and I thought it wasn't too bad myself. It does pick up some background noise, but I can't really complain. The thing I can complain about, however, is the fact that the mic lasted me only six or seven months. It's a great value mic, but not if it breaks that soon.
Excerpt: I use this along with a pair of Audio Technica AD700's and a Xonar DX soundcard. If you set up the mic correctly, then it gives you pretty good quality, but there is a fair bit of background noise so a background filtering feature will help a bit in any programs you use it with (most voip services have an option, I believe). I've tested it with Mumble, Skype, and Steam's voip, and in all cases my friends said it sounded great.
Excerpt: Picked this up from Amazon while looking for a cheap mic as it had been recommended to me through many other friends, and what can I say? It works like a charm, clips on and that is that, you may consider using sleeving to keep the wire next to your headphone cable but that is up to you.
Summary: I use the mic for skype mostly during fps gaming. Works very well! I use a pair of sannheiser 280 pro studio headphones with it. I was pleased that I was able to easily add a good mic to my existing headphones that works well and is cheap.
Pros: Very cheap, Small, Long chord, Clips on easily to headphone chord, clear sound, good dynamic range especially for the price
Summary: I can not find a headset/microphone unit that I like, I prefer using my Shure E3c earphones for PC gaming/audio anyway. The Zalman ZM-MIC1 was nearly a perfect mic to pair with my preferred earphones. It clips on to your headset cable and is out of the way unlike a boom desk mic sticking in your face. And since you clip it near your mouth on your headset cable it won't pick up everything else making noise in the room like a monitor mounted omnidirectional mic will.
Pros: Small, Unobtrusive, good mic for the price!!
Cons: Clip is useless if you're attaching to thin earbud/earphone cable
