Excerpt: Music sounds great with these. They are a little heavy, but I knew that when I bought them. What I did not know was that they make great ear warmers. This is good for winter, but may not be so good in summer. I'm quite happy with them. They don't seem to really need a headphone amp to sound good which is another plus.
Excerpt: I was able to audition a few models in the [$]range prior to purchasing these. Because of the good reviews that I read and the excellent pricing ([$]), I decided to order these and sell them if they were not up to my expectations. Let me just say that I was very impressed. The build quality is amazing. German engineering shows (although there is a tag on them that says "made in Taiwan"). They are solid, no flimsy parts or "plasticy" stuff going on here.
Pros: Amazing Soundstage, Durable, Good Bass, Good Value, Great Sound
Excerpt: They do sound amazing for the price ! A bit recessed mids, but great highs (a little sibilant and maybe too much for some) and amazing warm bass not too boomy. They perform very well in the mid-bass area (drum and bass, edm, trance..) No need to amp them up, they will sound great plugged in directly into your iPod. They will improve over time (reputation for long burning periods needed (120 hours +).
Pros: Clear Sound, Durable, Good Value, Great bass, Great Sound, Lightweight, Somewhat foldable
Cons: Long Burnin Period, Med-Hi Clamp Force, No detachable wire, S-Logic Not for everyone, Too much Treble for some
Excerpt: I own a number of different phones and I use these for both listening pleasure and sometimes for production. In many ways the Ultrasone HFI-580 sounds better than the Audio Technica ATH-M50. Much more clarity and presence in the mid-range, better punch/dynamics, and sparkly treble without too much sibilance. It does well with a variety of different sources without amplification. The HFI-580 does really well with electronic music, rock and even games and movies.
Pros: Clear and forward mids, Comfortable, Compact, Durable, Good Bass, Good Value, Great Sound, Lot of punch and dynamics, Stylish
Excerpt: I purchased the HFI-580 headphones because my wife complained about "leakage" from my open headphones. I generally use headphones connected to my iPods in bed or while at work. My other set of "premium" headphones are AKG K701's. The good stuff about the HFI-580s: 1)I consider them to be of high quality construction 2)They provide external sound isolation (although not as good as my Shure in ear buds). 3)Generally, I like their sound.
Excerpt: For [$] I don't have any buyer's remorse. I was actually expecting more bass than they deliver because of other reviews, but I feel like the levels are right. I use them everyday and unlike other reviews said they don't get uncomfortable from tightness. I usually listen to rock/hip-hop/folk/indie. a nice change from my klipsch earbuds. Actually works with my ipod shuffle too (no amp).
