Ultrasone HFI-580

PC Magazine
23 December 2009
  • Conclusion: With the HFI-580, Ultrasone promises integrated surround sound. All I heard was a lovely sound signature that seemed suspiciously like stereo.
  • Pros: Fine for all types of music, particularly genres with deeper bass. Smooth low-end. Adds a twinge of brightness to an otherwise flat response. Solidly constructed.
  • Cons: Surround-sound effect sounds a lot like stereo. Large and bulky.

Ultrasone HFI-580 Review

Digitaltrends
9 June 2008
  • Conclusion: The Ultrasone HFI-580’s are impressively accurate-sounding for closed-backed headphones. We like the streamlined design compared with the bulkier Sennheiser HD280 Pros , though the latter are more comfortable. We can’t help but wish for a little more low bass power and a coiled telephone-style cord, but we highly recommend the HFI580s if you need very fine detailed mids, upper bass, and highs.
  • Pros: Veyr lively and wide sound; attractive design; earcups fold into headband
  • Cons: Extreme deep bass could use some extra power; headband padding is hard

  • Excerpt: Please your ears with the Ultrasone HFI-580 headphones which are comfortable to wear and sound good. German headphone maker Ultrasone’s HFI-580s block out noise without plugging up your ear canals or using active cancellation circuitry. The S-Logic “natural surround” technology and radiation shielding may seem gimmicky, but these great-sounding cans give our trusty Sennheiser HD280 Pro’s a serious run for their money.

  • Cons: Extreme deep bass could use some extra power; headband padding is hard

Ultrasone HFI-580

What Hi-Fi?
29 April 2010
  • Excerpt: Well, here's an interesting thing. The issue of open- versus closed-backed headphone designs (open sounds better; closed doesn't inflict your music on others) offers you a pretty clear choice. But Ultrasone is trying to confuse the issue – albeit in a positive way – by creating closed-backed headphones that are designed, the company claims, to sound as much like an open-backed design as possible.
  • Pros: Solid construction, comfortable fit, clean, clear and entertaining sound
  • Cons: Lacks the midrange realism and detail of the best
