Fantastic While it Lasts...

Zach C., Newegg
30 August 2014
  • Summary: I've owned two pairs of these over the course of almost two years. The first one lasted about a year and a half, and was fantastic while it was in one piece. Unfortunately, after a few months, a crack started to form on the plastic bit that connects the right ear piece to the part that goes over the head. Within months, this piece was bent outwards, and the headset no longer properly covered the ear.
  • Pros: Above average sound quality Above average mic quality Bass boost Cheap price
  • Cons: The dealbreaker: durability

Disappointing Durability

Timothy H., Newegg
6 August 2014
  • Summary: With a name like Turtle Beach I expected quality. They are very nice out of the box, but breaking after six months regular use is unacceptable.
  • Pros: Comfortable fit, good sound quality, easy to use, affordable price.
  • Cons: Bad production quality, not very durable. On my 2nd set of X12s now and both have developed major cracks in the plastic after about six months. These are well cared for by an adult, not abused, the plastic should not be breaking after six months of use. I got the 2nd set hoping my first one cracking was a fluke... ... ... obviously not the case. Will not be purchasing another pair.

  • Summary: The build/material quality is impressive for the price. Just holding the set and looking at it, it seems like it would be comfortable. Generally, they are, but if you wear glasses, they may dig into your head a bit sometimes, as they do mine, even with the headset sitting otherwise loosely and comfortably. It's usually not a huge issue, but occasionally I can't seem to get them to be comfortable no matter what, and it can get painful fast.

  • Summary: Very good sound, didn't really have any complaints about the mic from friends I used the headset with. Its just was very uncomfortable and ended up breaking down on me.
  • Pros: Good sound quality.
  • Cons: These things absolutely mauled my ears after wearing them for a short while. If you have a bigger head, stay away from these. The headset ended up busting up on me on the left ear. The plastic adjustor on that side just broke to pieces (Meaning I can actually take the left ear off the headset if I wanted to and see the thin chord going into the left earbud). The chord is pretty long as well, bit too long.

Audio problems

Kathleen P., Newegg
23 January 2014
  • Summary: So I bought this headset because I need one to use with my Elgato capture card. When using the HDMI adapter, a high pitched chirping and static occurred. I was told by the support that they had not tested the headset with the Elgato, no suggestions to fix it, just no. I then tried chatting with some of my friends. The headset echoed despite the tv being very low.
  • Pros: "Cheap" Useful for PC gaming Good mic
  • Cons: High pitched chirping Loud static noise while chatting on Xbox Xbox chat doesn't play through headset

Eh..

Jeff P., Newegg
24 October 2013
  • Summary: After this headset, I went to a pair of Astro A40's which were alright, but now I've settled with a pair of Razer's Kraken Pros. The sound quality is just as good as the Astro's which were $300 headsets (with mixamp and geeksquad).
  • Pros: Earpads we're really comfortable, but after a bit of gameplay I would have to take them off and give my ears a break because they would hurt after a bit. The sound quality was also really good on them for awhile.
  • Cons: The protective coating around the wires wasn't good for me. After a few months of using them, it started to peel off revealing the wire so I put electrical tape on them. This fixed that problem for a bit, but one day, the sound just stopped working. I could still use the microphone part of the headset just fine, but I couldn't use them to hear.
