Expert Review

29 October 2010
  • Summary: For just £30, the SoundMagic PL30s offer much better sound quality than you'll get from any bundled earphones. The downside is that they probably won't make you look cool, thanks to their style-vacuum looks.

SoundMagic PL21 and PL 30 Earphones

11 March 2010
  • Excerpt: Soundmagic is one of those “made in China and we’re proud of it” brands, which is actually different from your regular “Made in China” brands. The company is called Shenzhen Soundmagic technology, and the global coverage on this set of in-ears is nothing less than superlative. I love the rare occurrence of an obscure brand coming into the market and winning praise out of nowhere, you know, the underdog phenomenon.

SoundMagic PL30 In-ears

31 August 2009
  • Summary: These earphones provide a good amount of bang for the buck even though they are ridiculously cheap. At $25 I am surprised you can even make a set of in-ears that have the qualities that the PL30s have. Given they are not the best performing in-ears around but for the price they are damn hard to beat. If you are going for a cheap set of earphones for use on the move these are definitely the ones for you.
  • Pros: Small, Amazing value, Provides you with the advantage of IEMs at a very fair cost, Well built, price considered, Brilliant bundle, Attractive design, Handles microphonic noise well
  • Cons: Not nearly as good sounding as more expensive in-ears

SoundMagic PL30

What Hi-Fi?
27 March 2010
  • Excerpt: The SoundMAGIC PL30s prove a pleasant surprise. In the box you get an abundance of buds, both foam and plastic, as well as a chunky but solid carry case and a pair of comfortable over-ear clips. The delivery boasts bouncy, solid bass, with lovely punch and body through the range. The presentation has decent dynamics and scale - only better value rivals holds them back from a fifth star.
  • Pros: Solid bass, good body and punch
  • Cons: Better value from rivals

  • Summary: Despite the low price tag, the sound quality of these headphones will satisfy all but the most discerning of listeners. They are a bargain.
  • Pros: Very cheap, bass response adjustment dial, replaceable earphone tips, good sound quality
  • Cons: Hard to keep clean, bass isn't very punchy, noise isolation could be better

Русский Tom's Hardware Guide
17 March 2011
