  • Conclusion: For dance, industrial, electronic pop and mechanical contemporary classical of the Steve Reich variety, these are just the job, as long as you don’t mind looking like a cyborg. If its subtlety and nuance you’re after, these aren’t for you, and it’s curious that with most guitar music they rock about as hard as Katie Melua after a three-day valium binge.
  • Pros: The sound here is loud, upfront and packing more bottom end than John Prescott in tights. With electronic music and, in particular, the bassier end of the dance music spectrum – dubstep, gnarly techno and hip-hop – the XB700s are what young people call “sick”, “fab gear” and “groovy, dad”. You can wear them for marathon stints without fatigue as they’re actually a lot lighter than they look and clamp perfectly to all but the most grotesquely misshapen heads.
  • Cons: Venture beyond electronic sound and limitations soon become apparent. You wouldn’t use these to listen to Elgar or Coldplay – that’s a pair of strong points in their favour – but logically, the XB700s should tear your head off with something like Led Zeppelin’s “Achilles’ Last Stand”. Instead, they just tap you on the shoulder. Their elephantine dimensions make them both lacking in portability – unless you wear them on your ears all the time, of course – and make you ...

GadgetLite
6 April 2009
  • Conclusion: How low can you go: XB series headphones by Sony deliver the lowest ever bass Hip-hop? Dubstep? Drum’n’bass? Whatever you’re into, there’s a new range of headphones from Sony for music lovers with tastes that go a little deeper. The dramatically styled new XB series creates a heavy club vibe with rich, powerful bass you can really feel.
  • Pros: Very comfortable earpads, Stylish design and impressive solid quality, Excellent sound quality and bass sound, Reasonable price
  • Cons: No volume control on cord, Noise isolation could be better

12 November 2009
  • Summary: Cracking if you only listen to bass heavy tunes, not so good if you like guitars
  • Pros: Cosier than a four poster bed, great bassy sound on dance tracks
  • Cons: Lack of detail on guitar tracks, too big to wear out

Like putting pillows on your ears.

Good Gear Guide.au
22 July 2009
  • Summary: If you are a bass-head the MDR-XB700 will suit you perfectly, with slow, powerful low frequencies prioritised over all others. For discerning music listening they are not so spectacular.
  • Pros: Plush, decent acoustic noise cancellation
  • Cons: Slightly recessed treble, heavy, short cable (and silly cable design)

MDR XB 700

Test flash : casque Sony MDR-XB700

journaldugeek.com
7 August 2009
