  • Summary: I own the Grado GS-1000 with silver upgraded silver wire...the SENNHEISER HD-650 with silver upgrade...the Sennheiser HD-280 with silver upgrade and have done this shootout against the SONY MDR-SA5000 using the prototype George Wright WHA-22 headphone amp.

  • Summary: I have been using the Sony MDR-SA5000 ever since it came out several years ago, and have been using it ever since. During that time I have compared this headphone against many other headphones in its price class, namely Sennheiser HD600, HD650, Beyerdynamic DT880, Sony MDR-CD3000 (now discontinued).

  • Summary: REMEMBER I BOUGHT 'MDR SA3000' They are a step down but if you look at Sony's website you'll see there is only cosmetic differences and slightly AND I MEAN SLIGHTLY range differences. This was a TERRIFIC buy for me. JUST REMEMBER TO BREAK THEM IN!!
  • Pros: Just to be clear, I own the model down from these. MDR-SA3000 The only difference between them is leather ear pads and 10,002 khz. I can assure you they are the same. Amazing quality, clean crisp sounds even under 4 songs playing at once on a loud setting. PERFECT DJ headphones. Open ear design m...
  • Cons: YOU HAVE TO BREAK THEM IN. The transducers NEED to be broken in. When you first use the headphones you think, "Oh no, I just spent a lot load of money on poor quality headphones." NOT THE CASE. After leaving them on a machine (PC iTunes) for about 30 hours the bass finally kicked in and I got to ...

  • Summary: A few words come to mind to describe these headphones: fast, tight, accurate, and neutral. They are fast in that they respond very quickly to the signal they are presented with, giving great micro and macro detail and dynamics.

  • Summary: These headphones are very detailed thoughout their frequency response and provide a good bass response. Unfortunately the honky mids, fatiguing highs and rather small soundstage keep me from giving this headphone very high scores.

  • Summary: I am going to be brief because Iron Dreamers review pretty much hit the nail on the head when it comes to the MDR-SA5000. With these phones you definitely get what you put in. If your associated gear is up to the task these headphones can sound spectacular but if you feed them garbage, garbage is...
