great headset

Robert B., Newegg
19 July 2008
  • Summary: one of the better wireless solutions
  • Pros: good and lightweight.. when used with the optical connection for the base... there is no hiss or background noise as others have reported
  • Cons: line of sight for the wireless portion

Good but not high-end...

Lars J., Newegg
9 May 2007
  • Summary: They do the job well, and there is this "hiss" noise you hear on quiet passages and comfortability is much to be desired. However, I will keep them. TIP, try stretching them out for a few days with a pile of books so the clamping force is not so hard. They are plastic so it works.
  • Pros: For what I paid they are a good pair of headphones. Does the job of being able to turn up the volume without bothering the neighbors. Good spacial sound too.
  • Cons: I have the Beyerdynamic 880 headphones (not wireless) and the Sony's don't even come close to these. Sound quality for just music is poor, but for movies the Sonys are fine. They are also very uncomfortable for me though. Not sure why Sony decided to have them cover half of your ear!? Uncomfortab...

Horrible

Ronald B., Newegg
8 May 2007
  • Summary: Good riddance.
  • Pros: Ummm...they look nice?
  • Cons: Junk. The sound coming from these headphones is sub-standard. I received them today and I submitted a RMA for them today. I can't get these to UPS fast enough.

Awesome!

Brian P., Newegg
9 January 2007
  • Summary: I wish I'd bought them from newegg! (I paid too much)
  • Pros: Very clear sound, surprisingly good bass from headphones, surround sounds great.
  • Cons: IR wireless - line of sight. Its not that bad though, you just can't walk around everywhere with your headphones on. no mini audio in (no big deal, just adapt to RCA)

Almost junk

Lori N., Newegg
20 December 2006
  • Summary: For the price you would think they would work with out any static.I purchased this for my inlaws who just bought a plasma TV and there is so much static it is unuseable. I am using the headphone at home with a tube TV pluged into my panasonic digital suround sound DVD player combo reciever and I get...
  • Pros: Infrared instead of RF. Easy set up. Recharable batteries and base. 1/8 mini jack to mini audio cable included
  • Cons: No Audio mini plug cables included. Sound is ok lacks bass. Constant low static sound.Dose not work with Plasma TV's

Great for HDTV & DVD's

Anonymous, Newegg
29 November 2006
  • Summary: It took some experimentation with my PC's sound drivers to get it sounding good and obtain proper lip sync. The time that you invest is well worth the effort.
  • Pros: Genuine surround sound in a headphone--beats regular headphones by a large margin when viewing HDTV or DVD's on your PC. Batteries are nimh and last a long time.
  • Cons: As others have mentioned, there is a baseline hiss but it isn't noticeable when something is playing. It's a pain to get the pins for recharging the headset to line up on the base.

Hissing is annoying

David S., Newegg
10 September 2006
  • Summary: These wireless headphones are a two-edged sword--it's great not having a cord attached to them, but I suspect that the hissing is due to the infrared transmitter and is therefore a big tradeoff. I tried a pair of these a couple of years ago and returned them for that very reason.
  • Pros: Support for DTS and Dolby Digital, and they're wireless.
  • Cons: Annoying baseline hissing/static, even when close up and directly in front of transmitter, that is almost always noticeable, especially during relatively quiet movie scenes or mellow music.

Incredible Headphones

Emre K., Newegg
3 August 2006
  • Summary: I was skeptical of the surround sound at first, but I wasn't disappointed like early adopters usually are. Great product.
  • Pros: I've had these headphones for almost two years now. I paid a bit more for them then, but they're a great deal now. The sound is still incredible, the range is better than advertised, the headphones are immensely comfortable, and it just plain works. 5.1 works flawlessy on these headphones, even t...
  • Cons: After about a year of using the headphones, the headband started to get a little twitchy. Since it's also the "on" switch for the headphones, the sound would "pop" to an extent. Then again, considering the fact that I used these headphones almost everyday for several hours while I did my school w...

Wonderful wireless headphones

Sam S., Newegg
5 June 2006
  • Summary: As someone who works with sound in my profession (technical producion) I was really suprised that this product was able to deliver what it promised, a seriously accurate emulations of dolby digital surrround.
  • Pros: Great Quality, the highs are clear and crisps and the lows really thunp, at more than one point watching a movie in cinema mode i had to take off the phones to make sure the sounds i was hearing we're coming from outside (i.e. a huge bolt of thunder)
  • Cons: Since they're IR a line of sight is required which is fine if your sitting and watching, but dont expect to be able to walk into the next room to make a sandwich and still get a signal.

Sony MDRDS3000 infrared headphones

hirstte, Ciao
15 May 2007
  • Excerpt: These headphones were among the best that I have tried. The use of infrared as opposed to radio transmission eliminates possible interference from other transmitting sources like wirless network.
  • Pros: Comfortable, no radio interference, charging in cradle
  • Cons: Cannot be used from very far from transmitter,
