Review: Skullcandy 50/50

Wired
12 November 2011
  • Excerpt: We tested two models from Skullcandy, the 50/50s and the Fix. These 50/50s , the cheaper of the two, are sort of half way between in-ear headphones and traditional earbuds, and they provide decent sound for a decent pricetag ($40).
  • Pros: Good bass response when you get the seal correct. Wrapped cable makes for easy storing and helps cut down on cable noise.
  • Cons: The skull detailing is the brand’s signature flourish, but man, it made me feel like 13-year old emo skater kid. Persistent static drone is irritating.

  • Summary: Old review. I have deleted the text to avoid both embarrassing myself and misleading others. I stand by what I said in the Pro/Con section.
  • Pros: Mic and controls on cord, Strong bass that does not over power or seep too much into the mids
  • Cons: Awful micro phonics in cable, Lacks detail in treble and highs, Sub par extension in both directions

  • Summary: These are quite good sounding for the price. The sound is well balanced and nothing overpowers anything else. The design is also quite nice. The major flaw with this and most other Skullcandy products is that they pretty much break in a month.
  • Pros: Sound quality is quite nice, very nice looking
  • Cons: easy to break
