Sennheiser RS170

JohnD, Crutchfield

  • Summary: The sound quality is very good so long as your are not hoping to listen to music with soft passages. These are squelched or masked by a buzzy noise. I was hoping to use these several rooms away from my stereo, however even 60ft away I find that there are spots were the rf signal drops out.
  • Pros: OK for rock music or TV
  • Cons: Not for music with quiet passages. Not reliable for use in rooms other than where the transmitter is located.

Excellent head set.

  • Summary: These are really good headphones. I had to return them because I am 80 years old and needed phones that reduce bass sounds. The bass in today's phones and speakers block voices so I cannot understand half of what is being said. The phones, as I said, are great. I just cannot use them as I could not use BOSE headset for the same reason. Hookup to TV is easy and sound is good a long distance away. Good wireless headphones.
  • Pros: Easy hookup Quality sound in other rooms of the house. As good as BOSE without wires.
  • Cons: No good for older ears as bass sounds that are needed for good stereo blocks voice quality with movies or news.

  • Excerpt: Great wireless headphones. Comfortable, lightweight, and very good crisp sound. Bass boost not all that impressive, but surround sound feature is great. Only negative might be the placement and type of control buttons on the side of the headphone. Almost impossible to adjust without removing the headphones. They should be raised buttons (like my old Advent headphones)vs flat keys which you cannot find or press accurately while the headphones are on.
  • Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Use, Great Sound Quality, Lightweight, Repaceable Earcups
  • Cons: Headphone Buttons

Design flaws are shameful

  • Summary: They annoy the BLEEP out of me and I am stuck with them.
  • Pros: I guess they sound good but it is hard to notice when I feel like WHIPPING them across the room and SMASHING them on the wall!
  • Cons: -buttons hard to tell when on or off, -The stand falls all the time, -impossible to change volume without taking off head because controls are in a cluster with other buttons., -must turn off in 2 places. WHY oh WHY not have just 1 on/off button?!

Sennheiser RS 170

  • Summary: I've used these about four times now, and may have almost figured them out. They aren't "plug and play" if you have an older TV, but as usual the Crutchfield techs (Allen) patiently worked me through the set up I needed. I'm hearing impaired and wanted to get something that would give me better speech understanding; my 5.1 surround system wouldn't even quite cut it with the volume cracked up to dish-rattling level.
  • Pros: Comfortable, effective, quality construction.
  • Cons: Instructions aren't comprehensive enough. Headset controls are difficult to use,

  • Summary: This is my second set of Sennheiser headphones--one gift given to me at Christmas. Liked them so much, got a second set for my Dad. Great as an early riser to be able to watch television without waking up the hubby! The Crutchfield customer service was excellent to deal with. I would always recommend buying from Crutchfield!
  • Pros: Fabulous sound quality; long battery life between charges
