Summary: I'm using these to listen to our TV; they are connected to the headphone out.
I bought them to replace my failed Sony MDR-RF4000K, but I'm not too sure if it was worth it. Compared to Sony, I can't really say there is *any* improvement, maybe only when playing GT5 - Sony had a very weird problem when sound was "travelling" between ears, possibly because it was dolby-encoded? Not sure, but these don't seem to have the same problem.
Pros: Sound fairly decent
Cons: Cut out when input volume is low; cups are too shallow for my ears, manual switch on
Summary: So far they have performed flawlessly and it wasn't to difficult to get two sets of headphones to sync to the transmitter. The big test is yet to come, when we move them into the RV for the trip to Kansas Speedway and the NASCAR race.
Pros: Sounds good and I think the Bass Boost and the Surround added that extra touch.
Cons: The Power and Volume switches do leave something to be desired. Like others have stated, you almost need to take them off to make sure you are pushing the right buttons.
Summary: I am a little hard-of-hearing; the headphones solved all my problems with that. Great sound quality. The wireless feature allows me to move around the house [even into the basement] with no loss of sound quality. When watching television, I use them all of the time.
Summary: This is my third try with this unit. The first failed in the stereo mode sound just dropped out, second unit sound dropped out on one side. This unit so far has worked well except that I am experiencing a cutting out when it is first powered up as though it were going through a seeking mode. I'm hoping the unit continues to work.
Pros: Nice when it starts working
Cons: Being as this is my third such unit makes me wonder about quality
Summary: WOW! The sound is amazing! I had no idea of what I was missing. The clarity and detail the RS 170's provide is awesome! I can hear every detail from music and TV programs. The wireless works well as there is absolutely zero hiss or humming. The unexpected bonus with these headphones is that I can walk all around the house and never miss anything from whatever source I'm listening to. The headphones are comfortable and reduce outside sound well.
Summary: Just purchased these wireless headphones for use with TV, not ham radio. They replace Radio Shack wireless headphones which stopped working and fell apart. (And were VERY uncomfortable). The RS-170 is a QUALITY product and works as advertised. Extremely comfortable - almost as comfortable as Bose Quiet Comfort headphones. Audio is terrific. Range is way more than needed. The headphones easily fit onto the charger dock, and the light tells you when they are fully charged.
Summary: I bought these headphones to replace an old pair of headphones that I use when working out in the morning. For this, the ear cups are a plus, it helps block out the noise of the exercise equipment. I have it set up so that I can listen to the news or morning shows as I work out, and I turn the TV volume down so I don't disturb others in the house - plus the ear cups don't block all of the sound, so it's odd to hear the sound in the background also.
Excerpt: I had a wireless IR sony headset from many years back. That had so much static that it was driving me mad. After an extensive amount of reaearch and many second opinions, my mind was made up. There is no static or interference at all. Since this is a 2.4 Wifi system, it did clash with my linksys dualband router for a little while.
