Great improvement over previous versions

  • Excerpt: I've been using this wireless headphone for music and watching movies. And I should say this by far is the best wireless set I've owned. I had the RS 140 but I felt it is lacking in the low range. While the rs170's base isn't as heavy as I'd like, but you can definitely hear it compare to the RS140...it makes watching movies, especially action ones so much more alive! I'm glad I actually replace my old headphones. Hope this help those who are planning to upgrade.

I would recomend this product to friends

  • Excerpt: These headphones are excellent. I carefully researched a wide range before buying, especially reading customer comments. I used to own a pair of Sony headphones and these are far superior. I can go throughout my house with no difficulty and the sound is excellent. I also bought Garfield GAHSBK Headphone Softie earpad covers. I highly recommend that these be bought with these headphones.

Sennheiser RS 170

Steve, Crutchfield
14 July 2012
  • Summary: I reviewed many wireless sets of headphones from $100 to $600. I thought I would give the Sennheiser RS 170 a chance. After all I could send them back if I didn't like them. My wife goes to bed early so I thought I would used the headphones then. Well, I wear them all the time. The bass and surround sound is beyond excellent. Comfort, style, and range are too. This is the first Sennheiser product I have bought and I'm very happy.
  • Pros: Excellent sound reproduction Great reception range Excellent Bass and Surround Very comfortable even on extended wearing of headphones
  • Cons: The only improvement I would like is better tactical feel for the side buttons.

RS-170 Sound Great but with Some Limitations

LR, Crutchfield
26 June 2012
  • Summary: So far they have performed flawlessly and it wasn't to difficult to get two sets of headphones to sync to the transmitter. The big test is yet to come, when we move them into the RV for the trip to Kansas Speedway and the NASCAR race.
  • Pros: Sounds good and I think the Bass Boost and the Surround added that extra touch.
  • Cons: The Power and Volume switches do leave something to be desired. Like others have stated, you almost need to take them off to make sure you are pushing the right buttons.

Works well But

  • Summary: This is my third try with this unit. The first failed in the stereo mode sound just dropped out, second unit sound dropped out on one side. This unit so far has worked well except that I am experiencing a cutting out when it is first powered up as though it were going through a seeking mode. I'm hoping the unit continues to work.
  • Pros: Nice when it starts working
  • Cons: Being as this is my third such unit makes me wonder about quality

RS-170

MD, Crutchfield
23 May 2012
  • Summary: I will be returning the RS-170s. We had trouble syncing with receiver and TV. When we did get the units syncd we had busy/high pitched noise
  • Cons: No advantage over our wired headphones (had to run wire from TV or receiver (not worth it). Had trouble syncing units (repeatedly)

  • Excerpt: I use to listen to my home theater where the sound does not come in my house. Another great use is able to give privacy to any other person can hear a sound, without disturbing other people and the sound is of excellent quality. P2 may lack an entry in order to use the excellent headphones listening to my ipod.
  • Pros: Comfortable, Good Battery, Good Reception, Lightweight, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Poor Interface

Excellent wireless headphones

Ken R, Crutchfield
29 January 2012
  • Summary: These wireless headphones are very comfortable and have excellent sound quality. I use them for watching TV while my significant other reads in the same room. They sound better than the actual TV speakers. And, they were cheaper than I could find anywhere else, including the manufacture's website!
  • Pros: Excellent sound Quality , including surround sound!
  • Cons: None so far.

Class-leading wireless sound with just a few limitations

Ed, Crutchfield
29 January 2012
  • Summary: I've been using the Sennheiser RS 170 wireless headphones for over 18 months now, and while it took me a short while to fall in love with them, today they're the home theater accessory that I simply cannot live without. They provide clean, enveloping sound when listening to music or movies, with wire-free convenience to boot! The quality of the RS 170's wireless signal needs to be heard to be believed.
  • Pros: - Outstanding sound quality - Clean wireless signal - Great range (over 75 feet indoors) - Good battery longevity with convenient recharging
  • Cons: - Limited connectivity options - Bass boost muddies sound quality - Surround sound feature not particularly effective - No native surround decoding (DD or DTS)
