Conclusion The Sennheiser HD 650s are a solid pair of headphones for at-home use. They're about as good as other higher-end headphones, offering solid audio performance with very little distortion. They're fairly comfortable, although their pads aren't as soft as what you'll find on other high-end headphones. They do have open backs, which means they're better suited for use in a private listening environment as opposed to the morning bus commute. The one sticking point... Read more
The HD 650 has been Sennheiser’s flagship audiophile headphone for several years now, but it is only recently that the firm decided to buck contemporary pricing trends to reduce the product’s list price from around $600 to $500. Sennheiser has been building very high-performance open-back headphones for years, so in a sense the HD 650 is an evolutionary design that leverages insights and know-how gleaned from the classic HD 580 and the critically acclaimed HD 600.... Sennheiser HD 650 Company: Sennheiser Price: $599 http://www.sennheiserusa.com Yeah, I know. You just did a double take at that price, right? I don't blame you. Spending that much money on headphones, for most rational people, would be, well, crazy. But then those people would not be audiophiles. And let's get something straight right up front: these are NOT headphones you wear connected to an iPod. That would be like putting a Hemi in a Honda Civic. Read more

Although headphones have been part of my world for many years, they have been primarily relegated to my portable devices for exercise. I have a dedicated theater for listening and have no volume restrictions, so why would I need headphones? Doing this review was an eye-opener. I bought this unit to maintain marital harmony and for late night listening. I was unimpressed when I first plugged it in to the stereo jack on my Sony V444ES receiver. What is clear is that this unit needs to be broken in. After about 40 hours the sound opened up. About 100 hours burn in is preferable. I am using these cans 70/20 home theater and music. With music it is very detailed to the point where some may consider them too analytical. It handles high, mids and... Read more
After reading a lot of raving reviews about the HD650 my expectations were high. I must say, even without a dedicated headphone amplifier, these cans exceed my expectations! In my opinion they're not extremely analytical, or clinical, just very, very musical. Highly recommended. Read more
I have used this headphone for a couple of years now. I can be considered as an amateur audiophile. I must say this headphone is the best I have heard compared to any headphones I have heard before in similar price bracket or more from my own headphone and earphone collections(Beyer dynamic,Grado, Sony, Audio Technica, Shure, Koss etc.) . Having said this, the headphone needs a proper power to drive. Now I use the headphone from my external soundcard M-audio firewire... Read more
Sennheiser HD650 Headphone 5 The sound is far from muddy or boring.... it is luscious and warm. Colored? I feel so... but nothing is completely transparent. I started hearing so many things I've missed in the tracks I listen to every day on my infinity car audio system. Read more
