We thoroughly enjoyed the Sennheiser HD 600s. They are exceptional headphones and definitely worth the money, especially if you use headphones often. If you're a particularly persnickety listener though, you may want to step up and shell out the extra cash for Sennheiser's HD 650s. Just remember that these are really intended for home listening -- ideally when connected to a home stereo with a solid amplifier. Additional editing by Shannon Doubleday Read more

I've been an audiophile for donkey years now and have even, in my small way, achieved some renown as a reviewer. Yet, every time I review headphones I get defensive. You see, I Read more

It’s not often that I review headphones as most of the models I’ve heard aren’t much to write home about. However, upon speaking with Ivy Scull of HeadRoom, she sold me with a pretty convincing argument about the sonic joys of a quality set of cans (headphones that is). I asked her to send me a reference performance headphone system that is also comfortable to wear. I found the Sennheiser HD 600’s to be a truly amazing set of cans. They sounded great with... The HD 600 is an audiophile quality open dynamic hi-fi/professional stereo headphone. The advanced diaphragm design eliminates standing waves in the diaphragm material. The HD 600 can be connected directly to hi-fi systems of the highest quality, in particular DAT, DCC and CD players. This headphone is an ideal choice for the professional recording engineer recording classical music. Some features include High-quality open metal mesh earpiece covers for an extremely... Read more

I bought these headphones to replace studio monitors in my new loft (cant have the cops knocking everytime I cut a track). They plug straight into my Pro-Tools rig with the 1/4 jack and right off the bat you'll notice that the pads are open-eared. It's a bit discerning at first because you can hear everything as if there were no headphones on. But as soon as you start the sound you immediately realize what these headphones are for. They really do sound very similar to a... Read more

Sound is neutral and very clear. Much wider sound stage than other (cheap) headphones I've owned. Not too hard to drive; bass is lacking from iPod output, but my Creative X-Fi Elite Pro does a fine job. They have a 300 ohm impedance which means they need high amounts of voltage with low amounts of current. These are open back headphones which means sound easily leaks IN and OUT. You can be bothered by ambient noise and others will likely hear what you're listening to if... Read more

I think the best way to determine if these are the headphones are for you is for you to consider what type of music you will be listening to. I bought the 590's for my mainly rock-n-roll interests, and was a little disappointed. The clarity was good but it lacked that "wow" factor, which I consider the most important part of the experience. I found that when the tracks really got motoring the vocals seemed to be lost in the background. The mid-range just didnt come... Read more

I've had this model as well as the 650 for years. I've tried many of the big money headphones except for Beyers, and this includes AKG 701s. I still feel that these headphones are incredible at reproducing a balanced sound with excellent spea ... ker-like imaging. They are a little more laid back than Grados, but Grados cannot touch the bass of these headphones. They have more of an inpactful "up front" sound, but Grados lack the refinement and overall coherence of... Read more
