Sennheiser CX300 Earbuds

  • Summary: I've always used Sennheiser headphones for both home studio work and my iPod. In this case it appears I was my own victim of penny wise, pound foolish. Sure, you're getting Sennheiser for a very reasonable price, but the design and sound in my opinion is weak. They come with three different sizes of plugs for your ears which is cool, but the way they lock into your ear be prepared to hear sounds generated from your head movements and breathing if your working out.

  • Summary: For the cash, very nice headphones. Anyway, compared to the Sony EX71's, the bass is a lot tighter with better extension. The highs are smoother and because the bass is out of the way, vocals are a lot more present and is less fatiguing to listen to in the long run. In respect to durability, I have been using them pretty consistently in the gym and have held up very well.

  • Summary: I should disclose that I purchased these headphones for $15, and for that price I recommend that anyone snatch them up as a back up, or workout phones. However, not sure that I would purchase them for $60 or even $40. These headphones really struggle with mids, and sometimes the bass is flat-out overpowering. I like to test out my headphones by listening to Pinback, as their music is a good representation of the aural spectrum.
  • Pros: Comfort, bass
  • Cons: Poor mids, sometimes too much bass, crackle

  • Summary: These IEM's are very comfortable so they can be worn while lying down with no discomfort.   The bass is the best part of the CX300's, while the mids are average and the highs are lacking.   For the price, these are decent headphones and anyone interested in relaxed sounding headphones, this would be a nice purchase.
  • Pros: Very comfortable with good amounts of bass.
  • Cons: None.

  • Summary: These are substancially better than the EP-630, but still they are dreadful comparing to the Philips SHE9500 or the MX500. They offer good bass impact and extension, but its quality leaves much to be desired. It's badly seperated from the mids. Their highs are decently-detailed and bright. Overall, they sound artificial and harsh. Despite that, I do use them when I need isolation, they are really good in that respect.

Good quality, basic

  • Summary: Noise reduction good. Great for travel. Sound quality also fairly good. Allow a few hours initial listening to burn them in; takes the edge off the treble. For the price, an in-line mic/volume would have been nice. A carry case would be good too.

Fit not identical to the originals

  • Summary: I paid for express delivery, and these arrived next day, so no complaints there. However the fit is slightly different to the original ear-buds that came with my Sennheiser CX-300 earphones. The rubber is maybe 2mm shorter on the replacements at the end which sits closest to the earphone, and the material is different. I only lost one, so using one original and one replacement the difference is definitely noticeable, though less so using 2 of the new earbuds.

  • Summary: I have owned 2 pairs of Sennheiser CX 300's and, starting with the good points, I have to say that the sound quality is rich, and the bass is punchy and prominent. For sound quality alone, ditch you standard earphones for these, they're not as expensive as usually advertised on sites such as Amazon.
  • Pros: Sound quality is excellent, as is noise insulation
  • Cons: Build quality is absolutely atrocious
