Piranha Gaming Headset from Razer
11 July 2014
Excerpt: Have you ever spent many hours wearing headphones while gaming? Gaming headphones come in various shapes and sizes, from very small (fit in your ear) to very large (surround sound). Go to any LAN party and you’ll see what I mean. After a couple hours of playing games many headphones become very uncomfortable. It has happened to me many times where it feels like someone is driving a nail through the side of my head after using a pair for a couple hours.
Summary: Razer is the well known peripheral maker of gaming keyboards, mice and more. Today we will look at one of their audio products – the Razer Piranha. This is a gaming communicator which means it features both headphones and a microphone for in game communication. The Razer Piranha includes a noise canceling microphone which allows the gamer to be heard clearly in crowded gaming environments such as LAN parties.
Pros: Excellent sound quality, Noise cancelling works as advertised, Well constructed, Cool glowing Razer logos times three, Remote volume/mic controller
Cons: Expensive, Uncomfortable after prolonged wear
Summary: The Razer Piranha Headset has round soft ear cups which pivot and a fully adjustable padded headband. The microphone swings down and can be adjusted horizontally. Since this headset is made from durable materials it's designed to take LAN party abuse. The headphones have a frequency response of 18 to 20,000 Hz, an impedance of 32 Ohm and a sound pressure level of 114 dB.
Razer Destructor Mouse Pad & Piranha Communicator Headset Review
8 October 2008
Excerpt: Razer sent over two of their latest products for 3DXtreme to take a look at recently; the Razer Destructor and the Razer Piranha. The Destructor is a mouse pad with the hard core gamers in mind. Featuring an ultra-wide size, textured surface and 25% better tracking than a standard mouse pad the Destructor delivers a mouse pad worthy of even the most hard core gamer. The Razer Piranha delivers true to life audio with an adjustable built in noise-filtering microphone.
Excerpt: Everyone that is a gamer knows that having the freedom to game whenever you want is severely limited to who you are living with or next to. Other than some special situations, both will actively object to you disemboweling your adversary with a gattlin gun at 3am in the morning with you 5.1 speaker system at gaming volume.
Excerpt: Playing games over the internet like Counterstrike or Team Fortress 2 without a headset is really frustrating. It’s faster to issue commands and ask for help by speaking into a microphone than by typing on the keyboard – which usually will get you killed (virtually, we mean). That’s why the serious gamer always confides in a good headset while playing.
Excerpt: The Razer Piranha is engineered from the ground up to blend performance, long hours of comfort and functionality, to deliver realistic in-game audio that will satisfy the needs of the most demanding gamer – You.
Pros: Comfortable, Threaded cable, In line volume and Mic control attached mic, Cool LED’s
Cons: Ear Pieces that sit on ears, Lets outside noise in
Conclusion: Razer has produced a headset that is perfect for gaming. They don’t perform as well when listening to out of game audio, but that is to be expected with gaming headsets. The clip on sound and mic mute control is a nice feature, the blue backlit triple snake on it adds to the style. Speaking of the glowing triple snake, they have included this on both ears.
Summary: In order to test the Piranha headset, I basically just used it for everyday tasks like, music, movies, and gaming. In all my testing I used a Creative X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series sound card .
Pros: Good Sound, Noise Filtering Microphone, Nice Long Cord, High-Quality Headset
