Great Head set

Cory C., Newegg
17 August 2009
  • Summary: Paired with a Razer Barracuda AC-1 = awesome sound. I hear people spawn in CS.
  • Pros: 5.1 Surround sound with quick access volume control? Excellent Mic. Lights are cool, and you can turn them off.
  • Cons: Price. But worth it. Can hurt your ears depending on placement. Could use extra padding so the speakers are not physically on your years.

User Review

  • Summary: I'm a proud owner of 2 razer barracuda headsets, a razer lachesis mouse, and a razer megalodon headset :-D
  • Pros: Very nice gaming headset. feels comfortable even after long hours of play. Very useful in using sound for locating enemies in fps games like americas army.
  • Cons: The sound in one ear has a tendacy of dieing, i believe its the vibration of the speakers causing the speaker to break the solder connecting the wire. however you can return them to newegg or contact razer directly and they will replace them (if its been under a year). The boom mic could be a lit...

Great Headphones

Morgan K., Newegg
23 July 2009
  • Pros: Very comfortable and adjust very smoothly. I like having the option of detaching the mic for when I am watching movies or music. Being able to change the volume on the separate channels is very convenient. The long cord is a big plus.
  • Cons: Sometimes some of the surround channels will click when you are rotating a character in a game with the 5.1 enabled, more then likely it's the game but it is annoying. Sometimes the mic will be really quiet and you usually have to just unplug and plug back in the mic for it to work right again.

THEY ROCK....BUT SETUP IS IMPORTANT (NUMBER 2)

Ryan M., Newegg
22 July 2009
  • Summary: REMEMBER TO SET THEM TO 4.1 LIKE REVIEW BELOW ME SAID! Also, when the band in the middle breaks (and it will) use safety pins to fix it up like brand new.
  • Pros: They sound amazing. I can tell exactly where people are playing Counter-Strike: Source. AMAZING HEADPHONES! BUT like the guy below me said. SETUP IS VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT!!! I used 5.1 setting for a long long time. Until the other day actually when I read the review below m...
  • Cons: Using them for so long without enjoying the great sound. The mic sucks. People can hear my game echo through ventrilo with this mic. The headband has broken on mine twice. Both times the elastic band that runs through it, but I was able to fix it easy with safety pins.

Solid Product

Forest M., Newegg
24 May 2009
  • Summary: I don't know why everyone is giving this product such bad reviews. I've bought several different razer products over the years and they have all lived up to my expectations. So far so good with this one no problems or difficulty so far.
  • Pros: Comfortable headset for an adult sized head, w/ clear audio and functional mic.
  • Cons: Not the greatest bass, but it's fine for gaming and general computer use. Relatively easy setup but the default microphone is a little big short; although, it seems to be picking up my voice well.

User Review

Benjamin L., Newegg
19 May 2009
  • Summary: The first pair of these I owned, which I bought used about a year and half ago, recently broke. I mean the metal just snapped in half, and they're unwearable now. But I just bought a second pair (this time new) because the sound quality is worth it, and they're cheaper than newer surround sound...
  • Pros: Excellent sound quality, including the bass and the microphone. Surround sound means you'll hear them coming, and know which way they're coming from.
  • Cons: My first pair snapped in half.

Good upgrade...

19 May 2009
  • Summary: Lights are cool, seems solidly built. A little surprised to not find any documentation in the box, but a quick search of the vendors web page found the needed information. Especially at the price at the time, a good deal.
  • Pros: Sound great. Using a X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty PCI-E card these things sound as I had hoped. It took a couple of minutes to balance out the front/rear channel volumes, but no really drama. Driver is set for 5/5.1 speakers and I'm having no issues. Music quality seems excellent, nice range. So far so...
  • Cons: Why, oh why do they make gaming headsets without mute switches for the microphone? Maybe I'm expecting to much but, even the cheapest headset have mute switches. Turning off the amp doesn't seem to kill the microphone. This may be a driver flaw (under Windows 7 RC 64bit) but I'm not thinking so. ...

pretty good headphones

Anonymous, Newegg
20 April 2009
  • Summary: the bass actually makes the headset rumble which is tight they could have made the lights pulsate like the razer deathadder and also they could have put an indicator on what level the volume is at on the main knob but its no big deal
  • Pros: This headset definatly has great great looks to it and verry comfortable fit on the head, its over the ears so no pain at all i love the blue lights on each side and the amp also the surround sound actually works as expected, pretty great for gaming
  • Cons: if you were looking for a headset with a lot of bass i probably wouldt go with this one and i was one of the peopl looking for just that so yeah at max volume all of the highs and mids just mix together and sound a little bad but nothing major at all

Great But...

Stephanie T., Newegg
31 March 2009
  • Summary: Repaired with 5min epoxy (A.K.A. Double Bubble Adhesive) Mic is able to be detached and fitted with a higher end mic of wanted. Gave it 4 eggs cause it broke after 22 months of use and discomfort after long use 3+ hours.
  • Pros: Great sounding if paired with the Barracuda AC-1. Nice touch with the sides of the headphones glowing blue with the razer snake triad logo. Nice work with the volume control, easy access to controls. Overall amazing sound and great positional audio. The pigtails included are great if you want to ...
  • Cons: Mine broke were the earphone forks attach to the upper headband strap. It just one day decided to snap, no worries to easily repaired though....See other thoughts...Not that great sound for music playback...

Thing doesn't come with a manual

Anonymous, Newegg
19 March 2009
  • Summary: I used to have a Niko 5.1 headset. It looked way worse than these. The Niko's came with a breakout box (not including the manual volume control) which was kind of handy as it let me plug in my speakers simultaneously. The thing is comfortable, I've had them on since I got them 5 hours ago ^_^.
  • Pros: no breakout box (not including the manual volume control) means no ac power needed! You still need to plug the usb in so it can power itself... there is a master volume control, set your speakers and use it so you'll hardly ever have to set it again. Buy a stand to set it on and maybe you'll neve...
  • Cons: Yeah no manual. There is one on the website though... it's little more than an info sheet, but that's all I needed. Pretty simple setup though the connectors aren't labeled. no digital connections (other than the proprietary thingy), one optical line would have made it too easy on you I suppose :...
