25 September 2012
Conclusion: Overall we were very impressed with both the superior sound and build quality of the GameCom 780. The Dolby Surround Sound works extremely well and made a noticeable improvement to both the gaming and listening experience. The noise cancelling mic ensures that comments are clearly heard by teammates, and the overall gaming experience is a lot better for just using this headset.
Summary: The budget-minded headset has great compatibility and sound that rivals its more expensive counterparts, but unfortunately fails to live up to Plantronics' namesake with a middling microphone.
Pros: Comfortable and lightweight, Decent stereo quality, On-ear headset controls, Dolby Headphone and Pro Logic support, Excellent directional sound, Decent game compatibility, Configurable speaker layout
Cons: Noisy microphone, Short headphone cord, No equalizer settings, Stereo-only support for OpenAL games
Summary: The Plantronics GameCom 780 features some welcomed upgrades from the popular 777 headset and adds style and performance to boot. With online prices well below MSRP the Plantronics GameCom 780 is a must-buy for serious gamers.
