Summary: Everybody is different in terms of fit and preference- for me though, I really like the sound and fit of these (with or W/O the noise cancelling turned on). I prefer a moderately heavy bass with good mids and highs that are not overpowering to the point of being shrill and "hissy" (w/o equalization). These fill the bill quite nicely. I must admit, now that I have heard these, I would be tempted to pay full price, but the 90 day warranty would make me nervous.
Pros: Nice balanced sound. Comfortable. Noise cancelling works well for mid/low freqs. Good as normal buds (w/o NC turned on). Monitor button to cut sound and NC (to hear somebody).
Cons: 90 Day Warranty per Pioneer Customer Support.
Summary: I bought these headphones because I spend a fair amount of time in an electronics lab environment at work which has a lot of background white noise. I wanted a way to protect my ears, and have the option of listening to music while doing so. Over-the-ear noise cancelling phones were too bulky to wear around the lab, and of all the buds available, these seemed to be the best performance/price. I can't say I've been disappointed.
Pros: • compact size / easy to travel with • excellent sound quality • good noise isolation even with active cancelling disabled • noise-cancelling very effective in white-/brown-noise environments • extremely long battery life (>3 months averaging 5-10 hrs/week use and still on original battery)
Cons: • battery compartment a little bulky and somewhat awkwardly placed - if you don't have a button-up shirt or a shirt with pockets, it's hard to find a place to clip it. Clipped to my belt it will pull the buds out of my ears if I move in certain ways. Leaving unclipped pulls at the buds and isn't really an option. Ideally it would have 3" more wire on both sides of the battery compartment. Of course, I'm 6'4", so the length/placement may be perfectly sufficient for the...
Summary: * I am not an audiophile. * I am 6ft tall and the length from the earphones to the sound cancelling compartment reaches my waist with an inch to spare so it can be clipped to my jeans belt loop. I don't usually have a shirt pocket handy. * The earbuds take a little getting used. They initially feel like they have an aggressive fit but over time they have a good solid feel.
Pros: * Can't argue with a half price shell shocker * Solid sound, good bass * Light earbuds, feel cheaper than they look. * good length cord between earphones, noise cancelling unit and the 3.5mm adapter * Good noise "isolation" with the noise cancellation OFF.
Cons: * Compared to my Sennheiser CX300's which were a fraction of the price, the Pioneers didn't fit as well and I had to crank it up around 20% more for the same amount of music volume. * I barely notice a difference with the noise cancelling on/off. I get a slight noise/hum when the noise cancelling is on and the music volume goes about 10% quieter as well. You don't notice the noise/hum when listening to the music though. * I guess I was just expecting more since I have...
Pros: portable earbuds cancels out low frequency rumble sounds. Nice and compact, fits easily in shirt pocket. Quality of music is good for the price I got these for using on my long flights overseas to drown out airplane noises. I use these as my regular earbuds for my mp3 player now.
Cons: does not filter out middle or higher frequencies like voices. I have to increase volume to drown out those types of ambient noises.
Summary: I notice the Amazon website is suggesting you buy the two-prong adaptor (as used on airliner seats) at the same time as the earphones. There's no need, because one comes in the box. Mine have worked fine for more than a year, though a set I bought as a gift had to be replaced because the right side didn't work. They do a good job of reducing repetitive noises, for instance the clack of the wheels on a train.
Superb sound quality, quality of noise cancelling varies
25 February 2012
Summary: The sound quality of these in ear earphones is superb. Listening to Adele's "Set fire to the rain" at the moment with the noise cancelling turned off. Vocals are very very clear, bass is powerful and not muffled at all, strings sound subtle but again very clear. Basically compared with my reasonable quality Philips sports earphones - it is like listening to the song in HD.
