Summary: I lost the first pair of these. I went to many stores to try to find an alternative as good for the price, but I couldn't find anything. I ended up buying these agian, I don't regret it. I haven't listened to any earphones as good as these.
Pros: Sound quality, Sturdyness, Price
Cons: iPhone mic is not good, Highs may be a bit harsh in some songs
Summary: I must have weird shaped ear canals because I can not get a good seal with any of these canal-buds. The sound is good on these. It is a little weak if your device does not have enough power to boost the signal, but all new devices do have enough power. Also do not use an extension cord for your jack because there is no power at all and it is a very tinny sound.
Summary: I was a little concerned that these would fall between two stools -- that I'd be getting mediocre earbuds for my iPod and a mediocre way to talk on my iPhone, the aural equivalent of those hateful VCR/TV combos from back in the day. I'm very pleased to have been proven wrong. Sound quality is excellent, and these even fended off my inner Amish person, allowing me to talk on my iPhone hands free.
Pros: Excellent sound quality on a variety of devices, ease of use -- filters, replacements, etc.
Cons: What, no pony? I was told it came with a pony.
Summary: Overall: a good set of phones for the money.
Pros: Pros: excellent imaging, good clear mids and highs. Very musical, listenable. Had trouble getting a good seal with the various earpieces but the Etymotic triple flange (long stem) -which are my favorite earpieces, fit perfectly.
Cons: Con: low end is on the weak side. Friction on the cabling transfers considerable sound but that is not uncommon.
Summary: Prior to buying these earphones I had read a lot of reviews of various high-quality IEMs including the higher-ranking models by Etymotic, Ultimate Ears, Shure, Westone and some others. I also has experience with some mid-level Shures like the SCL3 and SCL4.
I picked the PFE 122 based on the fact the reviews ranked them very highly, the price and the fact that they have a built-in mic/controller that works with my iPhone 4.
I find the sound quality to be outstanding.
Summary: Got these as a present from my wife over 2 years ago and STILL going strong. Sound is as good as ever and they are very robust. Replaced 2 sets of Shures, both of which lasted less than 2 years.
Summary: When I bought these, I thought they were great even with the very expensive price. However, after just over a year of light to medium usage, the left speaker started to buzz and I couldn't fix it by changing the filters or even trying it without filters. Others have reported similar problems, so please be aware at this price level.
Summary: I've always been a slight headphone-whore, changing brand whenever I broke/lost a pair, working my way through most of the Ultimate Ears and Shure, brands amongst many others. These are the only pair I've bought twice. They have a really great 'neutral' sound - which sounds like faint-praise, but means music just sounds like it's supposed to.
Summary: Best earphones ever in my collection! Superb sound, easy handling, and superb comfort. I find myself listening to some lectures for hours and hours, even more than 3 or 4. At the end I don't have any pain in my ears, and I don't feel them all through the sessions. They just fit in and do their job. Priceless.
