[Lightning Review] Nocs NS200 Android Earbuds: Solid Hi-Fi Equipment, On The Cheap
25 April 2012
Excerpt: Lately, I've been listening to a lot of headphones as part of my hardware review routine. I've listened to So when a Swedish headphone company by the name of Nocs got in touch with me, I was a bit surprised - because I didn't know they existed. And there's a good reason for that (sort of): Nocs has specialized in making solely Apple-friendly headphone products. Until now.
Excerpt: It's no doubt the Swedish know how to make good sounding earphones and headphones. Nocs are a Swedish in-ear and headphone maker bringing us well designed audio products like the NS200 earphones that feature a remote and mic compatible with the iPhone, iPad, iPod and even Macs. The NS200 are Nocs' first model out of three others.
Conclusion: Apart from the wonderful Nuforce NE7M , there haven’t been any perfect iPhone headsets out there. The Maximo sounded great, but lost in overall implementation, and the excellent Phonak PFE really needed better construction and possibly, ergonomics. The Nocs NS200 plays right along with these. It isn’t perfect, but it sounds good, is styled for the on-the-low audiophile, and it works like a charm.
Conclusion: The NOCS NS200 earphones cater to a particular type of listener, those who prefer a nice, tight environment where bass is not overwhelming, but deep and present when needed. The NS200’s are not the best-sounding earphones we have listened to in this price range, but if you were deserted on an island with these and the upgraded Apple earbuds, we would definitely go with these.
Pros: Tight bass, Warm midrange, In-line controls and microphone
Excerpt: The Good Good build quality for the price. In-line mic and remote for iPhone and iPod. Good call quality. Two-year warranty. The Bad Mediocre music quality. Short cord. Volume control issues on our sample. Design and pack-ins The NS200s, and the entire NOCS line of earbuds for that matter, have a very simple, clean, even elegant design.
Pros: Good build quality for the price., In-line mic and remote for iPhone and iPod., Good call quality., Two-year warranty.
Cons: Mediocre music quality., Short cord., Volume control issues on our sample.
Excerpt: With the matte finish and basic, rounded design, the Nocs are unassuming. They’re light and comfy, too, which makes it easy to forget you’re wearing them – a rare compliment in the world of in-ears.
Pros: Full-bodied and weighty sound, space and accuracy, good value for money
Cons: Need some more detail, bass should be tauter
Excerpt: The headphone market is a fiercely competitive place, and almost nowhere more so than in the in-ear sector. There's almost every combination available, from the super high-end Sennheiser IE800 the likes of the the premium Sennheiser IE80 and the Sony XBA-4 down to cheap and cheerful earbuds off eBay. So where does Nocs come in? The Swedish company has begun sneaking out a series of neat contenders, one of the latest being the Nocs NS200s.
