Summary: I lost my other pair of headphones the other day, so I figured I'd buy some new ones. When I was browsing the store I got these headphones at, I saw Koss products and remembered hearing good things about their products, relative to their price. So, I bought the only Koss product they had available on the shelf at the time, and I must say I am not disappointed in these headphones at all.
Pros: Fits very well, Comfortable, Sounds awesome for the price
Cons: Not confident the earpads will hold up in the future, May be small for some people's ears
Summary: This is a review of a fully modded UR-55. Out of the box it's good, but not great. Without the mod the mids are very slightly muffled with some songs and the bass can be bloated. All this is caused by the grill and fabric behind it. I'm 100% sure of this since I had two pairs to test the differences!
When modded and these two things are removed the sound improvements are just amazing. Nothing subtle here in any way.
Pros: Cheap, Bass, Soundstage, Imaging, Great Mids
Cons: Could be more comfortable, bass bloated and slightly muffled mids without mod (congestion)
Summary: Well, I created an account just to review these. So here it goes:
I was looking for an inexpensive (<50$) portable pair after my incipio f38 and my JVC s400 broke down (these are ridiculously good headphones for the money by the way). I got these after I read tdockweiler's review and mod topic. Out of the box, these headphones were pretty mediocre next to the similarly priced headphones I mentioned above. They sounded muffled with muddy bass.
Pros: Low Price, soundstage, smooth treble, clean bass and mids, sturdy cable, vocals sound really good
Cons: Not worth your money if you don't mod, bass doesn't go deep, isolation, ugly
Summary: I use these, Shures and Bose depending on my activity. The Bose are 10x the price and my Shures 20x. They are better but not 10 or 20x. Excellent headphones for the price. I'm a convert to this brand and if I need to replace my other headphones, I'll invest in an equivalent product from Koss.
Summary: You can't go wrong with Koss headphones! I previously owned the Koss PortaPros and they were awesome! The price for what you get is definately low, so these are the best value for money headphones for what they deliver. The sound quality is great, you can hear all the instruments loud and clear and they do not fog with high volumes.
Summary: after reading lots and lots of reviews on headphones on amazon I went for these and boy aare they good tried them on different types of music despite the open back they have lots of nice bass for RnB and rap etc but also handle rock, pop classical and acoustic without problems and the noise isolation is good to you can bearly hear anyone which is nice. the build quality is very good and does not feel like it will fall apart on you in seconds.
Summary: I buy headphones for all sorts of things. Cycling, video production, music production, listening to my mp3 collection and so on. Porta Pro's are fantastic for use on the move but for production work these match any headphones I have owned. The bass isn't quite as pronounced as in more expensive models, but we are talking about headphones that cost 10x as much. The clarity is really up there with the best, every detail in the sound can be picked out.
