User Review

indieman, head-fi.org

  • Summary: To clarify: I have the normal s4, not the inline mic/remote edition (these http://www.bestbuy.com/site/image-s4-stereo-earphone/9422369.p?id=1218105502820&skuId=9422369&st=klipsch s4&cp=1&lp=3) I picked these up the other day just for the heck of it and because of their legendary status as excellent budget iems. I really wasn't expecting jaw dropping sound, especially since I was currently pricing some iems several price brackets above these.
  • Pros: exciting sound, comfortable and light weight, excellent design and quality, shiny!
  • Cons: straight plug? for some people

Incredible for the price, just incredible.

Rosa S., Newegg
19 December 2010
  • Summary: I've read in reviews that the plugs don't fit--well, the S4 comes with four different size sets of plugs... If they don't fit, then the person must be a very tiny person or a giant. The aluminum case is about as good as an Altoid's box--pathetic for Klipsch.
  • Pros: Great, solid bass; no boom type c rappy noise. Mid range doesn't overextend/impinge on the lows or highs; solid, very solid. Clarity of the high end sound is bright with outstanding detail. Contains a set of dual-magnet micro-speakers. I don't know of any sub $100 headphones that have these... They're found more in the $200+ range, like Shure's SE310s. Two year warranty.
  • Cons: Cheap y-cable. Not unlike most earplugs on the market, though. The upside is the two-year warranty that covers breakage.

I Tried

Jeffrey B., Newegg
30 November 2010
  • Summary: I really, really wanted to like these. The reviews were mostly positive and they seemed just right for me. Alas, I could not get them to fit properly and as a result, the sound I got was tinny without any bass at all. I read other reviews which told how to insert them into my ears and I tried and tried. After a few weeks, however, I had to give up and get a pair of Koss Porta Pros. Maybe my ears are just not built for in-ear buds.
  • Pros: Different sized silicone inserts for different sized ears
  • Cons: Couldn't get them to fit properly Ended up with unsatisfactory sound

I wouldn't expect less...

Jeremy C., Newegg
16 November 2010
  • Summary: My budget could have allowed me to spend more but I took a gamble and gave the Image S4 a go; I was not dissapointed at all. These are by far the best earbuds for the cost and completely sustains my trust and loyalty to Klipsch as a company. Great Job. Get them while you can!
  • Pros: Excellent sound - superior to equally priced earbuds. Good quality - plastic not aluminum but still feel great in my ear Unsurpassed quality- Like all Klipsch products it is obvious they know what they are doing and doing it well!!
  • Cons: Would rather have a bit more weight to the earbud; but also pays off with running as I don't feel like they are going to pull out of my head. Other than that.... absolutely nothing con about these at all!

they fit my ears!

Daniel P., Newegg
8 November 2010
  • Summary: ive owned 4 other pairs of headphones from other brands (kept switching because i have very oddly shaped ears, nothing will stay in other than klipsch ear tips), and none of them compare. they have more than plenty of power in the lows but dont show the muddled mids and highs that you see in most bass-heavy headphones
  • Pros: awesome bass shape of eartips allows them to fit every possible shape of ear lightweight
  • Cons: they will make your low quality mp3's sound horrible, get some higher quality mp3's or lossless audio if you want to get the best out of them

A little dissappointed...

Anonymous, Newegg
1 November 2010
  • Summary: not too bad for $80 the 18ohms seem a bit low. Given how well the sound isolation works, there is no need for such a low impedance. Even in environments WAY OVER 100dbs, I find myself not needing to go over 50% volume. Why such a low impedance?
  • Pros: -For $80 these things are decent -more than enough base -an amazing ear plug! -The case they come with is pretty cool as
  • Cons: -They have a flat spot in the upper end of the spectrum -The opposite of what i would call bright when it comes to the highs.

in love

Gavin S., Newegg
26 October 2010
  • Summary: i've gone through 4 - 5 different types of earbuds in the past 4 years or so. altec, jvc, sony... i have no reason to switch now. these are just awesome. the sound is worlds better than my past pairs, and most importantly, they STAY IN MY #%&@#$@ HEAD. i don't know what it is about my ears, but your average pair of earbuds tends to fall out if i so much as breathe heavily. no swapping of rubber caps ever helped.
  • Pros: truly beautiful sound don't "advertise" too much lightweight (yes, that can be an advantage) comfortable for long periods they don't fall out of my head when i sneeze
  • Cons: the cord does seem a bit flimsy... whatever. just throw down $10 for extra warranty if you're worried. great earbuds under $100 are a rare gem. it's worth it to invest extra
