Summary: I **really** like these! It's really disappointing to be using some trashed foam pads.
Pros: Great for dramatically decreasing plane engine noise. The noise cancelling works better at that frequency. High frequencies are not cancelled as much. I had tried some Bose NC first, but really like these better. The white noise on the Bose bothered me greatly. These are very comfortable.
Cons: Foam pads wear out after 5-8 years. That wouldn't be a problem, but I haven't been able to clearly find a suitable replacement. JVC ignored my question about where to locate them. This is why I gave them 4 stars instead of 5.
Excerpt: Always hard to tell the size of a product on the web. These are a great size of headphone for desk work and on the road. Very nice case to protect them when not in use and not too large that it can't be put into a large camera case or good-sized laptop bag.
Summary: I tried to get some kind of warranty information, but it seems like JVC does not provide an explicit warranty. It's too bad, it was a nice set of headphones, but now I'll be cautious before a buy another JVC product.
Pros: While it worked, it provide decent performance in a small package.
Cons: It failed after only 8 hours of use. The noise cancellation feature started to fluctuate, so I replaced the battery. After several batteries, I had to admit that it was just broken. It works intermittently which too annoying to be useful.
Excerpt: I have had to throw away a number of headphones with permanently attached cords that plug into an mp3. The problem is always that the cord breaks down, usually around the plug, so I only get sound in one ear.
Excerpt: These did help reduce the lower frequencies on a transatlantic flight. They fit on the ear quite well and were not too uncomfortable.
But I think that the Bose Noise cancellation is better although I only tried it in store, but for the price I am happy with these.
Excerpt: I didn't really believe that noise-cancelling headphones could dampen airplane noise, but I wanted to try anyway. These are great! The noise does not go away completely, but it is significantly reduced. These are easy to tote and are a good value for the money.
Excerpt: The key thing to note about noise cancellation is to understand how it works. Most noise cancellation systems are tuned to cancel out droning, repetitive white noise such as caused by trains and planes. They don't cancel out too many other sounds that you might actually want to hear.
Summary: For the average audiophile, it's an amazing set of headphones. With moderate use (mostly while working or doing homework), mine have lasted for 3 years and still going strong. I can't compare it to other like-priced headphones because I've never had to use another pair.
Pros: Fantastic sound and bass, with the noise-cancelling acting like a bass booster, Pretty much drowns out ambient noise around me, No sound leakage, Cord length is great for personal use
Cons: Mostly comfortable, but more than 3 hours and my ear hurts a little, Since the noise-cancelling acts as a bass boost, I always have it on and thus battery life diminishes
