Classic Grado clarity and craftmanship

  • Excerpt: These are my go to headphones when working on my computer, or in my living room casually listening to music. I can spend hours on these headphones, without any discomfort, or notice any aching in my ears. There is a very clear lift in the low end on this model. More so than the RS2 or the 325's. These are built a little better than the standard Grados. My only complaints from the SR60's and 80 is the plastic build, dropping them once can break the plastic.
  • Pros: Clear Sound, Lightweight
  • Cons: none

  • Summary: Sorry... headphone display stand shown in this Grado Labs photo was somehow missing from my PS500 headphone box!   Since my first revelation into "good" headphones was via my Sennheiser HD 598s, which introduced me to great soundstage, imaging, and comfort, I was looking for something that moved further in the same direction for my upgrade, the PS500s.
  • Pros: Excellent presence; well-defined bass; well-driven by iPod; needs no amp.
  • Cons: On-ear pads somewhat tight; heavy long cord with 1/4" plug outweighs iPod & requires adapter

  • Summary: I'm not an experienced audiophile, so i'll make it short.  The PS500 is really easy to drive, you can plug it into your ipod with an adapter and it'll still sound audiophile level, but an amp does help.  Design : As shiny and good as the picture might look, these headphones, IMO, look pretty ugly, I won't consider that much of a problem since I usually only use open headphones at home. Comfort : Not too bad, the clamp is not too strong and it stays on my head quite well.
  • Pros: Exciting, Easy to drive, Sound has texture
  • Cons: Minimal Soundstage, REALLY FORWARD(I like it though)

  • Summary: The Grado PS-500 has a very smooth, even, and detailed sound from the lower mids on up, having only the lower-mids/upper bass emphasis of about 4 db to add warmth to the sound. The standout character of the PS-500 is the amazing realism of instrument tonalities. The price seemed high for what I expected to get, but having used them, they are worth it. The 'Y' connector is not the best for convenience, but I feel it is the right design for best sound quality.

Awesome Headphones

11 November 2011
  • Summary: In my headphone collection I have the higher end of the Sennheiser, AKG, Monster Beats lines along with the Grado 325sI's. The PS500's far outstrip the performance of my other phones. The sound is incredibility accurate. There is zero coloration. Listening to all types of music, the sound is superb. Highs are very apparent but not bright. Bass is strong without boom. For the price point, these are the best headphones I have listened to. I highly recommend them.
  • Pros: The sound quality is warm and very balanced/no coloration. Well Built Comfortable to wear Works great without a dedicated headphone amp.
  • Cons: Nothing

Grado PS-500 Stereo Headphone Review by Dale

Dale, Crutchfield
23 October 2011
  • Summary: I have several headphones besides the PS-500, and I've reviewed some of them, so I should find it easy to describe the PS-500, yes? Maybe not. By now I've discovered that my "other" headphones fall into the category of "polite" ear speakers. Inoffensive, smooth, and clean they are, and while the PS-500 shares their better qualities, polite and obsequious aren't one of them.

(Un)believable headphones

Jaystor71, Amazon

  • Summary: These headphones have, within the few days that I've owned them, changed the way that I listen to music. As a music lover and amateur musician, I have loved using headphones since my teenage years as I've always felt more able to discern details that were missed on speakers (unless they were very high end £1500+ speakers, attached to very high end players and amps, which I could only audition in a shop).

Incredible sound

Fmpv, Amazon
17 November 2012
  • Summary: My journey began with grado sr60i , totally amazing for the price, next step was the sr225i , shockingly loud but I found them piercing to the ears and a bit lacking in bass, although I'm sure after months of use they would have improved, After returning the 225s I finally took a giant leap to the ps500's They are fantastic right out of the box, great bass and superb mids and highs, a fantastic match for electronic music like psytrance...
