  • Summary: When my third pair of JVC HA-NC100s finally bit the dust and I found out they had been delisted I began a search for a replacement. Sadly, the NC100 were pretty unique with the retractable cord, there just wasn't anything to replace it.   Whilst researching for a replacement I found various reviews for these Goldring noise cancelling headphones that all seemed very positive. I found a pair online for £43 plus shipping.
  • Pros: Good sound with noise cancelling on.
  • Cons: Poor sound with noise cancelling off, build.

  • Summary: So I was lucky enough to get these very cheap from Play.com. They seem to be on there a lot of the time at around the £55 mark, compared to their RRP of £160, this is a real steal personally. I think that is something like around $85-90? Again, compared to what is probably a couple of hundred dollars upwards brand new. It might be different across the pond. First impressions: Well packaged and protected.
  • Pros: Very effective noise cancelling, good design, comfortable, fold down into hard case. Multi compatible cable.
  • Cons: Noise cancelling system sometimes hisses the in the left cup. Can get uncomfortable after a LONG time using them.

  • Summary: Goldring are a long established company who make headphones and phono cartridges. Originally German the company moved to the UK in 1933. The NS1000s have been consistently rated as one of the best NR headphones by What Hifi.    The RRP is £150, but Play.com have been regularly selling them for £50 and at that price they are excellent.   The pros outweigh the cons of these headphones.
  • Pros: Dynamic and detailed sound. Portability. Work with NR on and off.
  • Cons: Large ears wont fit, short cable, creaking noise from head band, leak noise.

which is rather brittle and easily broken. Impossible to use after that

19 November 2014
  • Summary: First pair broke at the joint, which is rather brittle and easily broken. Impossible to use after that, but impressed with the noise reduction quality so ordered another pair. Prompt and courteous service. But the second pair has rather an annoying hissing (or rather ffffffing) noise from the speaker battery side. Barely audible but once you hear it it's really annoying. I'd try a pair first.

The sound of silence

Paul Steed, Amazon
4 November 2014
  • Summary: Magic for use on an plane. Makes a very significant difference to the mid-range drone of an aircraft, the difference between a build up of tension and being reasonably relaxed. Not so good with babies crying, but that's a big ask.

VERY RUBBISH PAIR OF HEADPHONES DO NOT BUY THEY WILL BREAK UNDER A WEEK

Matilda, Amazon
1 November 2014
  • Summary: I am highly highly highly disappointed. The headphones broke after 4 days of usage. I got far better mileage from a pair of £30 from pc world and those broke after a month. Do not buy!!!! too expensive and a very flimsy piece of equipment. I would give zero stars if I could. I am very very very angry that I wasted money on this and because they are expensive I cant get another pair. DO NOT BUY!!!!

OK but have issues

Willywonkas, Richer Sounds

  • Summary: Noise cancelling with these is excellent. Bought for a flight but have used on train journeys and they take out all the low end rumble. Sound is balanced and no complaints in that score. Not too comfortable, I don't have a massive head but they really dig into my ears. Main problem is a lot of static crackle. Its intermittent but very irritating when it happens. Am going to have to return to shop.

Brilliant noise reducing headphones

Alison G., Amazon
9 October 2014
  • Summary: These are brilliant noise reducing headphones, they deadened lots of background noise when flying even without being turned on. I actually enjoyed listening to films in flight for the first time. Comfortable to wear and easy to use, I wish I'd bought them years ago.

I was highly disappointed. I can hardly hear anything when using it ...

Rebecca Ogunleye, Amazon
2 October 2014
  • Summary: I bought to his so I can use it with my iPhone 6 plus. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. I can hardly hear anything when using it to listen to music and for telephone conversation unless I set the volume level to the highest there is. The ear Apple headphones that can with the phone is 150% much better than this. I shouldn't have trusted the Which review. It's a complete waste of money. I would have returned it but I threw all the packaging out before I used it.

Good quality and cheap

Burt, Richer Sounds
24 September 2014
  • Summary: A product that punches above its weight. Good quality, great price. very comfortable. Most of the background noise is cancelled as soon as you put them on. Even the carry case is nice too. Sure you could break the audio cable if you are clumsy. I am not about taking calls on your smart phone whilst wearing headphones and using the mic. This was suggested in another review. Shouting at you phone on the train or outside you are going to popular!
  • Pros: comfortable , for the money that cannot be beat
