Summary: The headphone sounds great; this is the good part of it. The way it heats and compresses the hair while making dressing glasses nearly impossible, is the middle part. The cables are tha shame part. The architecture is great; everyone knows the weak part of an headphone are the cables, even if the Focal cables break particularly quick, and so the fact they accessorize the headphone with a detachable wire would be a wow factor. Right? Wrong!
Pros: Great sound and noise reduction. Fine materials, from the exterior.
Cons: The cables break after few months of use often due to the detachment of some internal wire disabling stereo or making sound intermittent. Yet they are welded in the "beatiful" cable and so unopenable and Focal sells no replacement cable! The second cable has no microphone and so the only way out is purhasing a third party cable.
Summary: I have owned these headphones for about 1 year and loved them. They have a great balance of sound quality, features, comfort and style. I auditioned quite a few headphones before buying these. There were a few expensive headphones I tried that sounded better with headphone amp (Grado) but didn't sound very good when connected directly to my phone or iPod. These sound great both driven by an iPhone/iPod and using an amp. They also have a nice inline remote and mic.
Pros: Sound quality, comfort, convenience with built in remote and mic.
Cons: The metal cover over on the headphone jack is decorative and glued over the top of a black plastic internal cover. It comes unglued from time to time when unplugging. Easy to reglue it, but it would be better if it screwed into place.
Summary: I was overall unimpressed with the Focal Spirit One cans. I'm hardly a connoisseur of headphones, but I was let down a bit by the sound and the manufacturer's advertising.
I compared these to my reference headphones, which are at the moment a pair of Sony MDR-V6. I would be comparing them to some Denon AH-D950s from ~2000, but they are (alas) broken. My overall impression of the Focal Spirit One is this: good, but you can find much better for less money.
Pros: Warm, good bass, feel sturdy, good aesthetics, detachable cable, nice included accessories and case
Cons: Not actually circumaural, cheap cables, overbearing clamping force, highs can be shrill
Summary: Very good headphones if you want something fun, lively and bassy. I was really impressed at first but with time I started to notice the short comings. Although relatively open sounding the sound is quite synthetic, almost forced. They do not give an accurate representation of the material listened to but that is not to say they do not give an enjoyable performance. Bass is well defined and lively, maybe too lively.
Excerpt: I do not know if the Focal is a good choice, if only for the lack of comfort. Moreover, these headphones are suitable for a certain type of music in my opinion. A little pricey for what it is.
Excerpt: Je ne sais pas si le Focal est un bon choix, ne serait-ce que pour le manque de confort. De plus, ce casque ne convient que pour un certain type de musique à mon sens. Un peu cher pour ce que c'est.
