Focal Spirit One Headphone/Headset (Playback)

4 December 2012
  • Excerpt: Any number of high-end loudspeaker manufacturers have entered, or contemplated entering, the high-performance headphone marketplace, and it is easy to understand why. For an entire generation of music enthusiasts, entry-level “hi-fi” systems are now more likely to be based on headphones than on speakers.

Goondu review: Focal Spirit One

7 April 2012
  • Excerpt: Mention Focal to audiophiles and the thought of its large floor stander speakers easily come to mind. So when the French hi-fi speaker maker recently said it was getting into headphones, many head-fi folks were thrilled to hear what would come of the effort. The Spirit One is this first pair of ‘phones from Focal and after a quick listen, I’d say they don’t disappoint, as long as you avoid equipment that can add too much bass, as many portable devices and laptops can do.

Focal Spirit One Headphones Review

21 March 2013
  • Conclusion: In a nutshell, if you’re looking for a good set of sealed headphones for mobile use – the Focal Spirit One should definitely be on your short list – they provide great value. If you’re going to rely on your iPod/iPad/mobile device alone to drive your headphones – the Spirit One is an absolute must for audition.  These headphones do capture “the Spirit of Sound” and they look great while do it too!

Focal Spirit One headphones review

Pocket Lint
18 January 2013
  • Excerpt: The rush to sell you headphones pushes on unabated. The thinking seems to be: for the time being people are prepared to spend £200 on headphones, it won't last forever, so let's make some money. And when there's demand, you'd be crazy not to try to satisfy it.
  • Pros: Sound glorious, bass when you need it, well-balanced, removable cable
  • Cons: Grip your head quite right, hard to adjust

Focal Spirit One headphone review

27 November 2012
  • Conclusion: The Focal Spirit Ones certainly look the part if you want your headphones to make as much of a visual impact as an aural one. They’re not the most comfortable closed-back, circumaural headphones on the market, but I couldn’t really describe them as uncomfortable either. There’s a decent bundle in the box too. When it comes to sound quality, it’s a bit of a mixed bag.
  • Pros: Generous bundle, Well built from quality materials, Impressive sound with some genres
  • Cons: Soundstage often feels narrow, Ear cups too small for some ears, Could be more versatile

What Hi-Fi?
22 October 2012
  • Excerpt: Closed-back headphones, constructed from a mixture of aircraft-grade aluminium, leather and rubberised plastic, the Focal Spirit Ones are sturdily made and feel built to last. Behind the bright red mesh in each ear-cup sits a 40mm mylar/titanium diaphragm driver, a light, rigid unit designed to major on sensitivity and linearity.
  • Pros: Feel durable, sound refined and detailed
  • Cons: Not the most exciting, or dynamic, headphones we’ve heard

14 June 2012
  • Summary: Focal may be new to the headphone market, but its Spirit One is an auspicious debut with the look, feel, and sound of a winner.
  • Pros: The Focal Spirit One combines sleek styling and vivid sound quality in a relatively small circumaural, over-the-ear headphone design.
  • Cons: Comfort is good, but not great.

Test Focal Spirit One : déjà une référence

20 February 2014
