Excerpt: I'm an acoustics professional with a pro audio background, and after much research and comparative listening, the ER-4's are the clear winner on the IEM market. The frequency balance is as close to flat as I've found in an IEM and compares favorably to my reference headphones and loudspeakers including HD650's and Focal monitors. The soundstage, isolation, and dynamics are as good as more expensive IEM's I've tried.
Pros: Accurate, Flat Response, Good Bass, Good Value, Great Sound
Excerpt: I purchased the Etymotic Research ER-4PT because I was going on a plane trip and I wanted the maximum passive noise isolation and the clearest sound reproduction possible. These ER-4PT headphones did not disappoint. Once in the ear, most noise, specially plane engine noise, disappeared and I could hear my music clearly. You will pay a premium for this luxury but it is well worth it since the clarity of sound is awesome.
Pros: Durable, Good Value, Great Sound, Lightweight, Optional Custom Ear Tips, Stylish

The sound is a little more accurate and immersive than the HR5's. I love to close my eyes and being able to visualizes the musicians playing the individual instruments rather than the coarse overview of the music that I got from every other headphones I have owned.
Summary: As a musician, audiophile and absolute lover of music I feel it very important for anyone considering purchasing these headphones to have the prior guarantee that these are quite simply breathtaking!!!! I have in the past purchased so many iems from sennheiser, shure, ultimate ears triple 10s,klipsch all top end models costing a fortune, and sometimes got close to what I felt was that sonic nirvana, but these are by far in my opinion the best set I now own.Even out of the...
Summary: I have had a pair of these earphones for two years now, I got them on eBay at the beginning of 2007 for £70. The sound is very good, and you can hear the bass clearly compared to other earphones. The foam eartips are better as they have better noise isolation. They have lasted quite well, except for the right hand side speaker, where the plastic has perished and that tip has broken off.
