Overall, the Denon AH-D5000s are fairly impressive for closed-back cans, and really, for a pricetag of $669, they should be, right? You’d be surprised. There are more and more headphones out there that are $400+ that are seriously lacking in the quality department, spurred on by disposable income and slick marketing. You should always be critical of anyone who says a certain pair of headphone is “the best.” That’s probably why you are reading this review, though. Read more

There seems to be no strong musical preference with the Denon AH-D5000, but we felt that classical styles seem to be just a little better suited to this headphone's very civilised presentation. There's no fear of a little roughness now and again, though! Read more

    • Comfortable, Impressive performance, Great build quality, Good isolation

A stunningly beautiful pair of headphones that produce an equally beautiful sound. Although you may need to sell a vital organ to afford them, they'll reward you with amazing reproductions of your music collection. Read more

    • Stellar sound quality, Comfortable, Lightweight
    • Expensive, Unfit for use on the move, Long, heavy-duty cable can tangle badly, Sound leaks at high volumes

  1. Excellent but don't renders the large orchestra spatiality

Excellent for the price. I am using with all kind of music, from hard rock to the most delicate Beethoven piano sonatas (only rap excluded) and I feel this headphone is a perfect compromise for all, even if doesn't render so much the large orchestra spatiality. However I didn't have the chance to compare to other same level headphones, so that is my personal feeling and I don't know if same level competitors are better or worse (some information about would be welcome). These are high end audiophile headphones with wonderful sound. I liked them better than my Sennheiser HD650 phones. The Sennheiser bass sounds indequate in comparison. The highs of the Denon are Angelic and open without harshness. The Denons can be played well from an iPod, however, the Sennheiser HD650 cannot. Both benefit dramatically from a headphone amp though. If the price is too much, look at the Denon AH-D2000. Read more
