Corsair Vengeance 1500 USB 7.1 Gaming Headset Review
30 October 2012
Summary: It is clear that this headset was designed for 5.1 surround sound. I think the inclusion of the 7.1 options in the control panel is due to the same panel being used for all three of the Corsair Vengeance headsets. Or it was just left in as a marketing gimmick. But even so, I spent more than my normal threshold of time in these and the comfort provided is excellent.
Pros: Very comfortable design, Minimizes perspiration, Solid 5.1 surround sound performance, Extremely long cable (9.8 feet), Attention to detail in design
Cons: Virtual 7.1 audio an unnecessary bullet point, Trouble with rear center audio reproduction
Corsair has really hit the ball out of the park with the Vengeance 1500. It produces clear and crisp audio while delivering a solid virtual surround environment. You can wear it for hours on end, and at times even forget you’re wearing it. Not only are the core bases covered (performance, comfortable), but it is also quite stylish. The blue stitching on the headband, with the blue accents on the earcups, and the aluminum plating create a unique trendy look.
Excerpt: We awarded Corsair’s HS1 USB headset a 9 verdict last year, remarking that its huge 50mm drivers, solid and comfortable construction, and $100 price tag added up to a surprisingly good value for a freshman effort. The one element that denied the HS1 a Kick Ass award was its uninspired—nay, downright ugly—industrial design. Corsair’s new flagship USB headset, the Vengeance 1500, retains all the strengths of the HS1 and eliminates nearly all its weaknesses.
Pros: High construction quality; good sound; comfortable; good value.
Excerpt: When Corsair made their first entry into the headset market, they made a strong one and we have only good memories about what was a very well rounded product. And now as part of an all new Vengeance series of products, we have two new headsets which again, like the first entry, come in two versions; an analog and a USB based digital headset featuring Dolby headphone software support.
Summary: The Corsair Vengeance 1500 Gaming Headset arrived at pcG as our first Corsair review item in two years, the packaging while not being the most protective in the world, was clearly geared at displaying the headset inside to its maximum and did a good job of it. The brushed gunmetal, black and blue accents of the Vengeance 1500 help add to the industrial look, it’s well built and the headset itself whilst big (25.4 x 15.2 x 30.5cm), is not too heavy at 381g.
Excerpt: 64 Flares 64 Flares × In the past year or so we have seen a number of component manufacturers such as Thermaltake and Cooler Master expand their product ranges into the gaming peripherals market. While some of these manufacturers have entered the market very quickly with a large range of gaming peripherals, Corsair has taken a more careful approach.
