  • Summary: I've owned these cans for about four years now and they still sometimes surprise me. A year ago I bought a DT 880 and in some ways the DT 831's are far more enjoyable. The mids are a bit too pronounced, but nice nevertheless. There are sometimes too much highs, depending on the material. I always use an equalizer and when listening with the 831's, I turn the 2 kHz sliders down about 3 dB and the 8 kHz sliders about 4 dB down.

  • Summary: These are excellent closed headphones for the money, if you like their sonic signature, which is certainly not laid-back. They have a degree of clarity and detail I've not heard from any other sub-$400 closed cans, which combined with classic Beyer comfort and nice tight bass makes for a great set of cans. The bass is of the hard, fast, tight variety, definitely not for the HD650 crowd.

  • Summary: How can any human, living or otherwise, fail to appreciate the Santa-Claus-furred-ear-cradling Luftwaffe severity of these utterly closed and bright side-intelligencers?  They deliver the analytical groceries with icicles to spare.   Trust me when I tell you they'll sound even brighter once you're dead.
  • Pros: Bright, analytical, semi-portable.
  • Cons: Bright, analytical, semi-portable.

  • Summary: There is certainly a design intent for these headphones. An engineer at some point sat down to create these phones, and I believe she walked away from the experience and effort with a certain satisfaction in the results. Why do I say this? It is because I am listening to these phones as I write this review. And I am enjoying what I hear.   In the simplest review possible, I could call the Beyerdynamic DT-831 an anti-bass headphone in a sealed form.
  • Pros: Detailed, free of bass bloat, and musical.
  • Cons: Recommended only for acoustic, and requires an amplifier.

  • Excerpt: I've been using these headphones for years, they're one of my favorite pairs. First of all, it comes with a couple of nice accessories. You get a nice velvet bag that cinches closed to carry and store these phones when you're not using them, which is a nice touch. The input jack on these is a 1/8" standard stereo jack, but they give you the adapter if you need to go into a 1/4" jack as you do with most pro audio equipment.

  • Pros: hervorragender Klang, guter Tragekomfort, guter Service
  • Cons: zu kurzes Wendelkabel
