  • Summary: The DT440s are a major departure from the old 431. If you love the rich Beyerdynamic sound of the past, you will be disappointed by these. The bass is light and not as extended as the old phones which robs the music of a lot of rhythm. In many ways, these sound similar to the AKG 401s with a slightly forward midrange in the presence band. Soundstaging is quite claustrophobic compared to something like the AKG 501 but still better than the Grado SR125.

Very poor quality of the plastic and questionable design.

  • Summary: Sound quality is typical BD - cold with overpowering highs, which I don't mind. It's not a Hi-Fi set and sound can be adjusted with EQ. I bought it mainly because of cups' comfort, which is great if you plan using it on PC for hours. Bad. I dropped it from the desk, semicircular plastic part broke right where it connects to a headband. I can say it's my own fault, but these things happen all the time and my HD555 survived 10 years of use and abuse.
