  • Summary: One of the runners up in the best $300 over ears headphones for open clear sound (http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-300ish-headphone/) Came from using the Beyerdynamic 990 PRO before, got another pair since I really enjoyed the first. The construction is a bit different. They cover the ear a bit differently, as the PRO's are larger in circumference and don't have quite as much room in terms of height for the ears.
  • Pros: - Excellent sound quality, - Excellent build quality, - Made for audiophile tastes, if the appropriate supporting equipment is there, - Probably the most comfortable headset I've ever had on my head (have tried the Astro A340s, Beyerdynamic 990 PROs, Sennheiser HD598)
  • Cons: - Accentuates the treble a bit. I don't mind at all, but these aren't headphones for booming bass (I personally don't see it as a con, other buyers might), - Should break them in sound wise before accessing sound quality (let them run with music playing for 24H straight, i did notice a difference in sound after doing this), - Price, depending if you can get them on sale (I did from NCIX, cheapest I have ever seen them in Canada during the Black Friday / Cyber Monday d...

  • Summary: I've had these for a few months now, and use them extensively for both music and gaming. They're currently being powered by a Creative ZXR soundcard, which does an admirable job with the 600 Ohm resistance. If you're getting the 600 Ohm version, make sure you can run them. The sounds is outstanding, but may not to be everyone's tastes.
  • Pros: -Excellent sound, -Great bass, -Comfortable, -Nice build quality, -Look good
  • Cons: -Sorta Pricey, -Sound may not be to everyone's taste

  • Summary: I'm not going to give a review on the sound they have, I will just say I have owned several pairs of audiophile headphones and in the 400$ range these take the cake for open back class cans. Obviously closed back cans would have more bass and a lower sound stage and open back cans are the opposite slightly subdued in the sub bass with a wider sound stage. Make sure you are getting the type of headphone you actually want before spending 400$ on a set of cans.
  • Pros: Very light and comfortable, well built design and of course good quality materials., NCIX took decent care as always with the packaging, when the box came to my door it was banged up a bit but the damage to the outer box left the headphones box completely untouched ''not even a scratch on it''
  • Cons: None.

  • Summary: This is a highly recommended choice and one of the most favorable cans for people looking for an open headphone that provide great sound stage/SQ for movies/gaming. It may not be the best to suit for all types of music but it does fairly well for its distinctive sound signature. Strong and proper amping is required for the 600ohm to sound its best.
  • Pros: 600ohm version provides smoother sounding but requires proper amplification to drive it proper and to its true potential. Excellent sound reproduction across the spectrum with slight boost in bass/treble frequencies. Dynamic and engaging sounding. Very good sound stage, clarity, detail, and it's most suitable for genre that favors in bass/treble. Fairly comfortable
  • Cons: Recessed mid (laid back vocal). Initial headphone clamp is a bit tight but it will get back over time once the paddings settles in and headband stretched out.

  • Summary: As a disclaimer, this pair of DT990 was a review unit from Beyerdynamic.   Arrived in a rather large box, beside a high definition picture of the headphones and a detailed technical spec, I always appreciate how Beyer guys honestly describe the sound signature and talk about the comfort without any hype or exaggeration.
  • Pros: Amazing comfort, revealing detailed sound, great bass response
  • Cons: no detachable cables, 32 ohm impedance still needs amping to drive from a phone

  • Summary: I'm in a situation where I generally can't try out headphones before making a purchase so I really have to do my research; and I did a ton before deciding on these.   I wanted a an "open" over the ear headphone with a large soundstage lots of detail and good bass extension. I wouldn't call myself a "basshead" but I know that I also don't care for cans that don't have any bass punch. My initial "wants" brought the 990's right into the picture.
  • Pros: Slight "V" signature (which I like), Excellent bass extension & soundstage. Great for Rock-N-Roll & Watching Movies.
  • Cons: Can be slightly fatiguing to some on the high end if not properly amped.
