Excerpt: I am a little surprised at the uncritical expert reviews. I have a pair of light-weight headphones by Panasonic which have crystal-clear sound and which leave these, eight times more expensive, in the shade. The sound is OK but not wonderful. Also the volume control is so "safe" that I can play my loudest pop track on full volume with no danger to my ears. The volume control is placed too high, right up by the left ear-piece, on an excessively long and very clunky cable, but at least I guess it will last. The big big plus and the reason I bought these phones is that they do a very good job of cutting out external noise. I was even able to listen to classical music while a few yards up the corridor someone was steam-cleaning furniture - a very noisy job indeed. I bought the phones to use at the gym, so that I could listen to my music and cut out the tuneless stuff that gyms like to play. So I don't regret the expenditure, although I am less than impressed overall.
If you like boomy bass

Summary: I bought these to replace my ATH-M50s as they are getting old and well I want some new cans. Sadly I have returned them. The boomy bass just rubbed me the wrong way.
