Audio Technica ATH-M50x ( Black)

CNET
17 July 2014
  • Summary: Quibbles aside, the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones are a modestly improved version of the already spectacular model they're based on, and among the best-sounding pairs you'll find for less than $200.
  • Pros: The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Studio Monitor Headphones offer excellent build quality and very detailed, balanced sound with tight bass. They're also very comfortable and have slightly more cushiony earcups along with a detachable-cord design (three cords are included).
  • Cons: There's no integrated microphone for making cell phone calls and the bulkier design makes them less suitable for mobile use.

  • Excerpt: When we last reviewed the M50 we were knocked out by its performance for just £120. Well, AT has monopolised the M50's lead in the shape of a brand new M50x, and added the M40x and M30x for those who need quality at an even keener price.

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones review: Exemplary over-ear audio

Pocket Lint
31 October 2014
  • Conclusion: Sometimes products exceed expectations, and the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x headphones are one such example. At first we didn't think these largely plastic-constructed headphones would achieve their "professional monitor headphones" label, but they absolutely do.
  • Pros: Accessible price, no compromise neutral audio experience, immediately comfortable to wear, solid build and ample padding
  • Cons: Largely plastic construction, no controller on included cables, not ideal for on-the-go wear, ears get warm after extended use

  • Summary: Audio-Technica's range gives you a lot of headphone for not very much money. What's not to like?
  • Pros: Worthwhile improvements over the original M-series phones, especially the detachable cable on the M40x and M50x., The range as a whole offers excellent value for money, particularly the M20x and M40x.
  • Cons: As long as the Audio-Technica 'family sound' suits your needs, none.
