Conclusion: Beautifully crafted and light enough to forget you’re wearing them, but with slightly forgettable sound, too. A pair to wear on the way to the gym rather than when you’re actually exercising.
Pros: You wear a heart-rate monitor, a GPS tracker, a cadence-sensing MP3 player and a sports watch with more functions than Twiki from Buck Rogers. You are the techno-lord of physical activity and require a suitably designer audio accessory for your ears. The ATH-EC7 is it. Its adjustable, gossamer-thin aluminium construction is feather-light and perfectly positioned to deliver a stream free jazz or Kraftwerk tunes with clinical precision.
Cons: It’s difficult to imagine the Audio Technicas coping well with any sport more demanding than darts, snooker or a spot of light curling. Their sound is rather lightweight too, lacking the chunky depth that gives you that extra push when you’re coming up on mile 18 and really just want to sit down with a strong cup of tea and a pack of chocolate Hob-nobs.
