  • Summary: I've owned these for the best part of a month now and have done some extensive listening with them both in extended listening sessions of several albums and of comparative listening sessions with with my HD650. I feel I am ready to comment on the qualities of these phones.
  • Pros: Spacious sound stage; realistic vocals; high level of detail; lightweight and comfortable for long sessions;
  • Cons: Can be a little on the cold side

  • Summary: Just trying to pull the average up. can't believe someone would give reference headphones of this quality a 1.5 star rating overall. but, that, i suppose is the love/hate nature of the k701/k702. personally, i feel they are wonderful headphones.
  • Pros: excellent value; wide soundstage; great rendering of acoustic instruments
  • Cons: lacks bass impact; shouty upper midrange; headband bumps are uncomfortable for some

  • Summary: I loved them while I had them, recabled them with DHC Nucleotide cable and liked them even more. There is a but, I was not able to pony up the cash to power them properly so I had to let them go.
  • Pros: Very detail oriented
  • Cons: headband not so comfy past 30 min.

  • Summary: Background information: I am a hobbyist, part-time geek, audio enthusiast who likes high fidelity gear (or just whatever I can afford on the day). You'll find me messing around in Sonar Platinum, EWQL Virtual instruments and other wonderful music production programs.
  • Pros: Open-back design allows excess frequencies bleed out
  • Cons: Bass inaccurate when compared to other reference speakers

  • Summary: Build Quality These are built very much the same as the previous K701, K702, and Q701. Lots of rugged plastic, a leather headband, and velour pad. The removable cable seems to be slightly less thick than the previous iterations.
  • Pros: signature, build, comfort, value
  • Cons: detail, soundstage, sparse packaging and extras considering it's a limited edition

  • Summary: Compared to Q701: (most of this has already been mentioned in other reviews) More forward sounding and upfront, except for upper mids (and most female vocals) Warmer and fuller sounding than Q701, but not by much. Sounds slightly more muffled and not as clear. Imaging seems better.
  • Pros: Slightly fuller sounding than Q701
  • Cons: Less treble and upper mids. Sounds too dark almost.

  • Summary: So, I'm listening to the K702 65th Aniv cans, through the ECBA, and they're not bad. In fact, they're mostly the same as the regular Q/K701s, with a little more bass extension, less grain (likely better THD numbers), and cooler looks.
  • Pros: Overall, very competent
  • Cons: They're still huge suckers
