Excerpt: I use these at length of sound editing for video so they should be comfortable to wear at length. The sound quality is excellent for the price. The thoughtless and sadistic design for the headband across the top of the head leaves virtual divots imprinted into your head that last for hours. The engineers obviously never tried actually wearing these beyond trial basis. And AKG offers no solution for this dilemma.
Excerpt: I've been using the K701's for a few weeks now and the sound is really impressive. Unfortunately, after less than an hour of wear I've found the headband digs into your scalp causing an irritating and even mildly painful spot on my head. I had the K240's for over a decade and not once did those headphones cause any wear issues. I loaned the K701's to a sound designer buddy to see what he thought and his comments were the same: The headband is terribly uncomfortable.
Excerpt: I use this headphones on a daily basis and they are plug into McCormack micro headphones drive (basically, a 5-Watt per channel amplifier with a IC gain stage and discrete bipolar output stage)The good thing is that there is a lot of details, which are presented very natural without being thrust at you. On the negative side, those headphones are not musical as the Sennheiser 600 and the 650 - probably as a result of a very lean upper bass and lower midrange.
Summary: The K701 causes mental conflict. On one hand, I want to rate it one-star for disappointing me so much. I've had two pairs of 701s for some time, and in the process they have survived many other headphones that I grew bored of—notably, a few Sennheiser and Grado models. The problem is that as of 2013, the competition is just too stiff.
Pros: Comfortable, detailed, cool-looking, superb imaging and sense of openess
Cons: Big bulky cord that does not detach. Limited bass response, oddly boring despite some good qualities.
Summary: Audio Quality:
This is a very detailed and fast headphone. Soundstage is very wide, but unnatural sounding. Lack of bass makes the overall sound very plasticky and artificial. My BOSE triports sound better overall.
The pads are about as comfortable as the Beyerdynamics', however, the bumps on the underside of the headband dig into your skull. I couldn't wear them for more than 20 minutes without having to reposition them.
Pros: Detail, clarity, soundstage width
Cons: Unnatural soundstage, unnatural lack of bass, supremely uncomfortable, looks like bathroom hardware
Summary: I wanted to try these out for a long time. Since I started thinking about upgrading my headphone system the idea of buying K701 was always in my mind. After 3 years of testing different gear and purchasing other headphones I have decided to purchase them. The price in the UK is not very good so I bought it elsewhere with shipping to Britain.
Summary: Der Kopfhörer hat einen analytischen Klang mit sehr gut definiertem Bass und ausgewogenem Frequenzgang- vom Sound her ist er also prima. Nicht so gut fand ich die Ergonomie, das lederne Kopfband ist zwar sehr schick, leider aber wenig flexibel und ich konnte den Kopfhörer nicht so einstellen, dass er bequem gewesen wäre, daher zurückgegeben.
