Summary: I was looking for a pocket PDA with the ability to connect to the internet and the TOSHIBA E740 seemed to be just right; it had a convenient size / feel to it and it came with many accessories. It looked great with all the features ergonomically placed & it was made of mostly metal. It could run dual memory cards for extra storage - both CF & SD cards. It's screen was very clear and displayed pictures well. It was priced more reasonable than other PDA / Pocket PCs.
Summary: Like all palm-tops, the Toshiba e740 is a compromise. However, with the right accessories, the e740 is as handy as a pocket-on-a-shirt! Having attempted using those tiny, thumb-operated keyboards on my cell-phone for entering appointments into the phone’s built-in organizer, I decided there HAD to be a better way. The e740; and its newer sister-machine, the e750 are much better ways of carrying tons of information around, ready-to-use at a moments’ notice.
Summary: This is a great product but, do not expect major support from Toshiba. They are still selling this product at full price $300-$400, but they are not offering any upgrades, free or paid. The product is like having a mini computer complete with microsoft office at your fingertips. Purchase a seperate keyboard and you will not be disappointed. I take notes in class with mine. I also use it to record lectures.
Summary: I was looking for a solid PDA without the hefty pricetag. I believe I received what I set out to do in the fact that the E740 has many of the features of todays high priced pocket pcs. Its dual memory card slots (CF & SD) offer a nice feature. The lack of battery life is my largest gripe.
Summary: Best case Built. Aluminum. Paint can't rub off aluminum. Wi-fi Works great!!. Infared works great. Nice Picture. Have to back up in case battery go's bad. If does takes 3 minutes to restore all games.programs ect..,Not Bad.
Summary: quite a nice piece of equipment. the good things: powerfull, flexible, good design, WiFi integrated, liked it way more than Ipaq units. the bad things: low battery duration, software upgrade not supported.
Excerpt: "I've owned an e740 since 2003 and it still serves me well 2 years later. It has a great processor that will run many of the high quality games available on Pocket PC (ie, Tomb Raider or Age of Empires). By 2005 standards, it's a bit behind the times without Bluetooth, but that can be bought as an add-on. You can also buy an attachment which extends battery life and allows you to hook your Pocket PC up to a project for PowerPoint presentations (via ...
Pros: Wireless Internet, Compact Design, Fast Processor
Cons: Can't Upgrade to the new Pocket PC Operating Systems
Excerpt: "...this review. I also have a Toshiba e740, bought for some of the reasons he included: The fast processor speed, the big high-quality screen, the expandability etc. However, I must amend a few things he mentioned to reflect my own experience using the device. He says... "including the recorder's button, which is unwittingly pressed when the device happens to press against anything " I say... This is correct I agree, it is annoying that the ...
