I've been using it for 15 years. Palm is the good stuff!

Summary: I bought the Palm Zire 21 to replace one that I have had for many years. It is a wonderful device and couldn't be beat in it's day, however, I am afraid it's day is about over as it is not compatible with modern computers because, the software will not sync with a 64 bit system which makes it very difficult to update. It will hold only about 650 names and addresses and of course, most phones will hold 10 times that.
Summary: I bought this Palm to get a taste (in an affordable way) for the Palm brand. It did give me a good sense of features offered by the Palm brand. I would call the Zire 71 a good Palm for a person new to PDAs. Its screen is a bit dim and does not have a back light. It is greyscale, does not have the ability to view pictures. I found the download and HOTSYNC to be difficult to navigate; even the company manual did not assist well with this. I do love a lot of the features.
Summary: Good in that it runs Palm OS 5, so many more applications are available. The lack of a backlight is a big drawback. However, the screen does well in bright sunlight--try reading a book on the beach with a color Palm. If you carry a cell phone and your Palm in the same bag, you should avoid this model. Inadequate RF shielding can cause the cell phone to zap the RAM in the Palm. I bought it because it was dirt cheap, and I use Palm devices mainly as ebook readers.
Summary: THE ZIRE21 IS A GREAT STARTING PDA WITH A LOT OF FEATURES. SIMPLE NAVIGATION AND SIMPLE TO USE. THE FUNCTIONS HOWEVER ARE A LITTLE SMALL TO SEE USING THE KEYBOARD AND TYPING MEMOS. FOR A BASIC PDA IT'S NOT BAD BUT I FOUND PROBLEMS WHEN YOU TRY TO DOWNLOAD SOFTWARE FROM PALM.COM SOME SOFTWARE SAYS IT CAN OPERATE ON THIS UNIT BUT CAN'T. IT' A GOOD PRICE FOR WHAT YOU GET,AND IT MAKES SETTING WORK SCHEDULES A BREEZE. I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR FIRST TIME PDA USER.
Excerpt: "Upon the purchase of our new Mitsubishi Pajero (Shogun), we were given a Zire 21 as a bonus gift. I didn't feel that I needed a PDA but I used the it for a while anyway. This is the summary of that experience. The Zire 21 was released by PalmOne as the entry level PDA of its home consumer Zire range. It only costs 69.99 pounds direct from PalmOne and can probably be found considerably cheaper elsewhere. But does the Zire 21 pay the price for ...
