Very good, but required a lot of reading and searching.

Summary: I had this device before and offered it to one of my friends. I started to use the Dell Axim x51V because it seemed to be technologically one step superior. But very soon I realized that the screen size was important for me. I got a used one on Ebay, it was being sold as broken, I fixed it, and now I use it to review my stuff before submission. Sometimes I watch movies, here the quality is very good. I also play some basic pocket pc games.
Summary: Love the large screen and vivid colors. Use of the HX4700 is similar to other iPaqs. Button use took a bit to figure out and understand. The standard program/feature launch buttons act like two buttons each, where one program is launched with the touch of the button and another feature is activated when holding the same button. Changing the screen orientation is a nice feature, but will take getting used to. The touch/mouse pad is probably the only downfall.
Excerpt: The HP iPaq Hx4700 is a pocket pc designed around for use by business persons on the move. When I bought this product about 2 years ago it was a state of the art piece of technology but, as with all computer based devices, they quickly become obsolete as other more powerful and user friendly devices come onto the market.
Summary: I love this PDA, even though I have had it back for repair 6 times!!.. I had so many problems with it when I first got it in 2005.. Problems included screen not switching on, random freezing problems, screen corruption.. But now the warranty has expired, but its still working and hasn't gone wrong for over a year now... So yes its a great PDA and people still are quite amazed when they see it even though its fairly old now.
The Powerful HP iPaq hx4700 for the Business User or Gadget Freak

Excerpt: HX4700 The HP iPAQ HX4700 is a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). In other words, it's a handheld computer. One would be able to use it as an organiser, word processor, MP3 player, gaming device, etc. Basically, most of the things a current PC or laptop would be capable of. The American version is the HX4705 but is identical in every way as far as I know. WHY I CHOSE THE HX4700?
Excerpt: I have had several Palm based PDA's over the last 10+ years, and this is now my 3rd iPaq. I am not going to list all the technical data for this PDA as it is readily available on the HP website and other places that sell them online. This is intended as a 'what's is it really like to live with' review. I have had my 4700 for over 2 years now, which is longer than I have kept any similar device (I usually trade them in every year).
Pros: Brilliant screen, plenty of power, excellent value .
Cons: It did physically break but was covered in the warranty .
Excerpt: The Hewlett Packard HX4700 PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) is a very capable unit. It has a large, clear display that can be rotated between landscape and portrait views. The unit comes installed with a host of features that make it a worthy purchase for anyone. It comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, pocket versions of Microsoft's Office applications; Outlook, Word and Excel as well as pocket versions of MSN and MSN Messenger.
Excerpt: The first think I noted was the slimmer version of the unit, then I turned it on and was blown away. The screen was so crisp and sharp, the colours so vivid in comparison to my 5450. My GPS refused to work with it which disappointed me (Navman 4000) but that was all that was wrong with it. Sporting two card slots - one is Secure Digital and the other is Compact Flash.
