Summary: These sound amazing! I put them in my guitar myself. I had to buy a 3 way rocker switch because these pickups are not tapped so they don't have a way to wire the 2nd and 4th position on a 5 way rocker. It was very tight fitting the battery into the guitar cavity, but in the end all this was worth it. They have great growl and scream.
Summary: Just received these pickups from amazon last week, and have to say, if you have ever contemplated changing pups and doing it yourself, definately give these a go. Installation was simple, and I had never done this type of thing before. I have to say EMG have put a lot of thought into this set. the installation has been carefully thought out and the instructions are elegant with all the diagrams you should need.
Summary: Though I wanted to get a NEW pair of EMG Zakk Wylde 81/85 Active Pickups, I could not pass up on these used pair for less than half the price of a new pair. They arrived on time and were true to sender's description so I can't blame anybody for all the extra parts and pieces I had to separately purchase for installation at Guitar Center.
Summary: I replaced the pickups that I had in my ESP LTD MH-100 with these and the guitar has NEVER sounded better. The set that I bought does not include EMG's newer "Solderless Wiring Kit" so I had a bit of difficulty (seeing as I'm incompetent when it comes to soldering) but my friend came over and helped me out with that. The sound that these pickups put out is nothing short of spectacular.
Summary: Well i got these and installed them on my LTD kh202, to replace the pasive ones, and i have to say it's a huge upgrade. Since they are active pickups they have a pre amp included (battery powered) that makes the sound really powerfull, on clean u get really rich harmonics, really articulates every single note, on distortion they are the best, I think they are made for metal, you can kick in any type of distortion and the will sound awsome, for tapping, legato, and sweep...
Summary: these pickups are absolutely amazing. Blues players, please dont be put off by thinking that EMG's pickups are only good for metal. The clean tone on both of the pickups are so warm and beautiful. so overall, as well as being excellent pickups for metal/rock, they are also good for just about anything. the only minor problem is the difference in the volume between the 2 pickups.
