Summary: I originally intended to buy this grill from Lowes as I had a 10% coupon to apply towards the purchase. The same grill at Lowes had different cooking grates from the one at Home Depot. Apparently, the Home Depot Weber Genesis Silver B has porcelain coated cast iron grates as an exclusive promotion instead of just the porcelain coated grate. So, I bought the one from Home Depot.
Summary: Our previous grill was a charbroil which lasted about 5 years and then fell apart piece by piece. But, it was only in the $200 price range. We've has this grill for three years now and have had zero problems with it. It has never failed to ignite and cooks pretty evenly. It has a large cooking area ( I can cook about a dozen chicken breasts or more at once...)It was certainly worth the extra money to get a product that will last.
Pros: The lid is quite heavy until you get used to it.
Cons: The lid is quite heavy until you get used to it.
Summary: This is an extremely well built and designed gas grill. It simply cooks better by design that any other gas grill I have owned. It also will outlast 5 cheap gas grills. If you have owned a cheap grill and it looks tired and old after a couple of years, you know what I mean. I have had mine for 3 years and it looks brand new. My dad has had the same model, left outside, uncovered, for 8 years now and it performs perfectly.
Summary: Don't purchase the cast iron grates. They tend to rust, must be 'prepared' for use, and food sticks. I've just gotten the porcelain coated iron grates and they do seem better. I've heard that stainless grates are available, but have not been able to find them locally. The fact that replacement parts are readily available for this unit is a big plus. I've owned several other grills, and when parts fail, I've usually had to buy generic replacements.
Summary: I had been waiting 20 years to get a decent grill. This one is it. It is very easy to use, the cooking is even, you don't have to sit next to it with a fire extinguisher, never ever any flare ups if you clean it before eacy use (removable drip tray assembly and pan). I use a cast iron smoke box to get those nice background flavors. Lamb chops are a dream, roast on a rotisserie is a delight. It would be nice if the design included a smoke box in it.
Pros: Wish I had more shelf space (one swing up shelf)
Cons: Wish I had more shelf space (one swing up shelf)
Summary: I used to have an old Kenmore grill and I could hardly make a good burger on it. Bought the Weber about 6 months ago and I can't stop using it - everything comes out great! The flame distribution is nice an even, and I've done a great job cooking burgers, beer-can chicken, chicken filets, red fish, amberjack, corn, even lettuce. I like the large, flat bars on the grill too.
Pros: Could have designed gas control panel to better utilize space & give you more room to set stuff.
Cons: Could have designed gas control panel to better utilize space & give you more room to set stuff.
