Presentation is always the first summary I give in each product review conclusion, but ironically this mundane topic seldom provides the same outcome. Sapphire, who I have pointed out once already is at the top of the sex-sells marketing game for the computer industry, offers us a full spectrum of tastes... er, personalities... for their product characters. Their latest 4800-series is not really so different, but I don't think they'll be showing off full-fledged lingerie... Read more

FiringSquad says: GA_googleFillSlot("Rectangle_336x280_Homepage"); In stock form ATI’s Radeon 4870 delivers excellent performance but at the expense of very high operating temps. For a lot of hardware enthusiasts, this is simply unacceptable. If you’re one of those gamers who is looking for a 4870 card with better cooling than what ATI offers, Sapphire’s Toxic 4870 is definitely the graphics solution you’ve been looking for. Its vapor chamber cooler is combined... Read more

If you run the Sapphire HD 4870 Toxic at its default speeds, it doesn't offer enough performance improvement to justify its considerable price hike over a standard Radeon HD 4870. You could buy a stock HD 4870 for £170 and overclock it yourself, although it won't have the excellent Vapor-X cooler, so it will run hotter and noisier than the Toxic. Only if you value cool-running components and low noise levels is the Toxic is worth considering. Read more

  4. Sapphire Radeon HD4870 Review

After we reviewed the Sapphire HD4850 we thought we had seen the best that ATI/AMD had to offer. We found just how wrong we were when we ran our first test with the Sapphire HD 4870.  Here is a video card that has Nvidia scratching it's head try to find card that will compete with it. Being a true ATI fan boy I think it is great that the roles have finally been reverse and for now ATI has the best performing and selling cards available today.  It may be a bit early to... Setting a new performance standard in its price range, the Radeon HD 4870 is a purchase that gamers with larger monitors— who don't want to drop more than $600 on a graphics card—won't regret. Read more

I installed this card on my Vista machine and now it is on my Windows 7 machine. I run all my games at max settings with no problems. I currently get 55-65 FPS on Dragon Age Origins with settings maxed by the Catalyst Control Center. I have had this card for eight months and it is still running new games very well. Read more

Still a potent high end Gaming Card. As a rule, if you plan to play modern games comfortable, you need to ignore any graphics card below the following: ATI 3870X2 (3000 series) ATI 4770 (4000 series) ATI 5750 (5000 series). This card is well over these entry levels. This card easily out performs ((25-40% more flops in games) then new 5770's and 5750's, which makes it a potent beast for your PC. The cards use HDT from CPU coolers - liquid vaporisation in heat pipes to... Read more
