  • Excerpt: We've often commented on the disparity between the power of high-end graphics cards - now expressed as trillions of operations per second - and the gaming software that runs on it. In fact, seeing average frame-rates in excess of 100fps is fairly common at a full-HD resolution, so NVIDIA and AMD have cooked up methods by which the substantial power of quality graphics cards can be better used.

  • Excerpt: AMD’s Radeon HD 6950 is based on the same Cayman architecture as the Radeon HD 6970 , and the cards are physically identical. The 6950 runs at lower clock speeds and only uses 1408 of the 1535 available cores. Early versions of the cards could be upgraded to a 6970 by flashing the BIOS but unfortunately, this has since been disabled by AMD.

  • Summary: Mit der Sapphire HD 6950 Toxic hat der Hersteller vieles richtig gemacht, aber das Konzept doch nicht ganz konsequent und vollständig durchgezogen. Durch die ab Werk schon recht hoch eingestellten Taktraten und die Möglichkeit der per BIOS-Umschalter zusätzlich aktivierbaren Stream Prozessoren wird fast die Performance einer normalen Radeon HD 6970 erreicht und manchmal sogar eine GeForce GTX 570 eingeholt.
